Upitt pre-med students % who get accepted to Med schools...

I tried Google but still couldn't find that how many % of Upitt pre-med students get admitted to Med Schools.
e.g. If 200 apply how many really gets in to MD program in USA.
Is it <80% or >80% or any other numbers.

I do know some other Schools publish these numbers.

It is an extremely low number. Pitt’s Med School does not give any preference to it’s undergad applicants. IMHO…go someplace inexpensive for undergrad where you can really rack up the GPA and then apply to Pitt Medical if that’s one of your choices.

Is it hard to get a high GPA at Pitt?

@aglages I am not asking about Pitt Med School acceptance rate, I know that its like ~6%. a very prestigious school to get into… I also know that their own GAP students sometime dont made into Pitt Med Schools because their GPA drop < 3.7… Very tough to Get in and very tough to stay in after admittance…

My question is what UPitt pre-med students ( the ones who get the Committee letter, LOR ) acceptance rate is for all other Med Schools, not a particular Med school but over all Med schools in USA, not in Caribbean or not Pitt Med school …

As far as I know, that information isn’t available as Pitt doesn’t have the type of formal pre-med major that other schools do. You’d probably need to call Pitt’s Honors College and ask them if they have these statistics. I’m not entirely sure how helpful they are when comparing often very different schools and programs.

Schools who normally gives Committee letters to their prospect Med track students know the # of letters went out.
So it will be fair to assume all those students applied to Med school, they can be doing any Major at UPitt like Music, Language, Nuero, Chemistry… not sure how they know who actually got accepted or taking a GAP year.

I am not sure if UPitt even give out Committee Letters or they just give out LORs to students…
WUSTL has a number which they publish somewhere so is MU Ohio… I am sure their are others too…

I believe Pitt’s honors college has such a committee through their honors pre-health professional advising, which is why I’d recommend maybe giving them a ring and seeing if they could help answer or direct you to someone that could.

We were there last Friday at Pitt for Honors college presentation for accepted students. I got a handout which says about 68% of Pitt students accepted at other med schools in US last year (2013). It also gave some breakdown of how many applied to any particular school and accepted/denied, also Allopathic vs Osteopathic schools.

Based on what was shown, it seems that Pitt’s acceptance rate is a lot higher than US average. Their health advising seems to be very good and transparent. They are a lot more open than other universities on stats.

Yeah, I think the national average is about 40%, Harvard is 93%, so 68% is pretty good considering the size of Pitt and the numbers of students that matriculate there with goals of attending med school.

@dad2014 - they also provide committee letters. the advising people seem to be on top of things from the get go. They have a list of what students need to do from freshman year to application period.
