Hi, i am considering both upitt and umass amherst.
Anyone have any opnions or suggestions?
Thanks

What is your major? Are you instate for either? Have you visited both?

Where do you live? How much do the costs differ? What do you want to major in?

California, (cost is not an issue). I am majoring in communications

Pitt is in an urban environment. UMass/Amherst is in a small town. Either school would be good, it just depends what you want. Can you give us an idea of what you are looking for? I take it you haven’t visited either campus yet.

Ive visited amherst multiple times and I like it. Only worry is that it is not a very academic atmosphere. Also wondering which one is the “better school”

planning to see pitt in a week

Okay, Olivia, when you put it that way. This is my opinion, and my opinion only, but Pitt is by far the better school academically. If you want more details, feel free to PM me.

UMass Amherst is a good state school but I find it odd that someone from California would be attracted to it. What else have you considered?

Well, my entire family is from that area. i also considered syracuse. I like the raditionsl college town feel of umass pretty much

Yes what happened to CSU’s and UC’s ? University of Pittsburgh does not have a campus so it doesn’t have the traditional college feel. UMass does. If you like UMass then attend that.

Csus are terrible and im not so interested in UC’s, as they tend to be filled with really typical competative california students. Was accepted to ucsb and ucsc and uc irvine, but they just dont float my boat. Plus I love the east coast.

I don’t know whether you have any ideas about what you might like to do with communications, but there are lots of businesses in Pittsburgh, particularly in healthcare, that could provide lots of internship opportunities.

One point that I would make is that Pittsburgh is a cloudy city. My daughter, a senior there, has had it with the weather. She did not want to go to a school in the south, but it is looking better to her after four years there.
