<p>@woogzmama Oops, I thought you were referring to Columbia Uni in NY. I do believe Columbia College in Chi would be a safety for me. </p>
<p>Columbia Chicago is a safety for almost everyone, when it comes to freshman admissions, but some specialized courses and concentrations can be selective once you’re there (or so I’ve heard). It was my older son’s safety three years ago, when he was applying to various theater programs. He is now considering transferring there mid-year for a different major.</p>
<p>If you want urban, I’d consider Temple or Pitt before Penn State. Penn State is a fine school, but in or near a major city.</p>
<p>NYU is a good choice for some and completely horrible for others. No campus feel, students that are a bit uppity, no school spirit by the students are things I have been hearing about the place. It may be a better choice for someone that lives in NYC or the vicinity. That way home is nearby and you can unwind on weekends.
Watch what you wish for.</p>
