I am taking AP Gov in 10th grade and i might be able to take AP WH, too (school is going to be on its third wk by Mon), instead of the Sociology elective my gc put me in. If my gc approves this, i might get the hardest schedule in 10th grade EVER!! But i m scared to even email my counselor. My sched. got messed up at the beginning and she made a few changes that i requested through email. I dont want to bother her but if i dont i might be missing out on a bump on my chances. The AP WH teacher said i should be in his class. But the thing i m worried about is whether i can handle it. If i atleast get a B+ (which carries the same weight as an A+ in the elective i was gonna take b4), it would look better than an A+ in Sociology. Should i ask about taking 2 APs, and if i could, should i do it?

Well, you've described the dilemma quite well here.

The rule is--if you can find the time, take the two AP courses. But if not, wait to take one of them. My view is that everyone who plans to go to a top school later on needs to take at least two AP courses sophomore year and at least two AP courses junior year.

Good luck.

P.S. Here in California the University of California system encourages students to take EXACTLY two AP courses in each of these years by adding extra points for the first four AP courses you take during these two years--and then no extra points after that. Obviously, the best students will take more in order to get into the top campuses (UC Berkeley and UCLA)--but the point is that if you just want to get into one of the good campuses, you only have to take the four AP course over the two years.
