I'm bumping this thread because I wonder also. :X

From the examples cited on-line in the application, this sounded to me like it was aimed at California residents that can take college-prep classes. So my son left it blank, surmising that it doesn't apply to out-of-state applicants. Just our guess.

Educational Preparation Programs:

Upward Bound

EAOP

EGC - Educational Guidence Center

ATDP - Academic Talent Development Program

Smash

YMP

I am sure there are more.

These programs were created with the sole purpose to prepare youth to go to college.

Therefore, the UC application allows you a place to input what program you were in in order to show that you, as a student, are deadset on going to college. In addition, there are a number of these organizations that are highly regarded as top-notch prep programs (either for their rigor, success in getting youth to college, or just nationwide prestige). These top-notch programs are designated with a special code for the UCs, hence furthering their prestige.

Hope that helped you. I was in two of these programs.

SAT prep courses count as well.

also:
COSMOS
AVID
PUENTE

etc
