I took SAT Chinese w/Listening this November... I didn't think it was easy... I know Chinese cause my parents speak it and I take a Chinese course, but unfortunately I could never afford a trip to China/Taiwan, so I'm not really a Chinese girl... and that's the problem: comparing to a native speaker, my Chinese is poor.

I
ve studied very hard for this test, but... whew, I left 5 questions blank. Five!!! Imagine the rest!!!!! I
m expecting a 600- crying =*(((((

Now I
m afraid they
ll look at my poor Chinese grade and think I
m stupid. Should I cancel my score or it
s better to leave it there??

(I already have 3 SAT II good grades... the problem is: I
d like to apply for Columbia, and I don
t know if they request 2 or 4 SAT II:

Additional Requirements: If you attend a school that does not give out conventional grades or if you are home-schooled, you must take two additional SAT Subject Tests in addition to all requirements outlined above.

I don
t study at an American high school. Does it mean that I don
t have "conventional" grades??)

And Conventional just means you get a mark in every course. Un-conventional would be an alternate school where your a recovering drug addict and do different courses or something. To be blunt!

Hey, thank you! My school is "normal", then.
And, uh, comparing to other Chinese ppl, I think I
m dumb. A 600- will be a bomb in my scores. I
m gonna cancel them. =/

Does anyone know what colleges do with SAT II scores for foreign languages? I find it hard to believe that non-native speakers are getting the 800s in Japanese and Chinese and Korean. Is it even worth taking them if you are a non-native speaker? What would colleges think of a score in the 600s or low 700s from someone who's only had around 3 years of a language in high school? (And no native speakers in the family).

I'm sure colleges would judge your foreign language score based on your race and family background

I mean, if you have the last name "Garcia" and got an 650 on the chinese sat 2s, I'm sure that'll put you in an advantage although you're probably on the lower percentile

yeah, that's the point. My parents don't really speak Chinese at home, and actually I consider myself a Brazilian girl, not a Chinese girl, BUT... I have a Chinese name =(((

ok, I'm gonna send a fax cancelling my scores...

Check what colleges do with scores above [some specified level you consider "low"]. In many cases, you don't have to be native-speaker fluent--not by far--to test out of a college foreign language requirement. That's why I wouldn't cancel scores of an SAT II language test.
