If you’re not ■■■■■■■■ (I only would think that because you apparently ■■■■■■■ the other thread?) I’d say your chances are great.

One negative: do you have any significant EC’s other than community service? If not, I would not predict you to be accepted to every school on your list.

You will probably be accepted to at least one.

@JeromeVergil It seems s/he goes to a school where ECs aren’t really funded nor all that present. Colleges receive profiles from schools so they’d be able to see that. Therefore, his/her lack of extensive ECs would be forgiven, and in fact, all of the time s/he put into community service would show his/her dedication.

@Born2Dance94,
haha yeah and thanks for the chance. Im a guy and my school sucks. There are no decent EC’s and its *****ty. There is a backetball team, baseball, lacrosse(nobody really plays this as my school is 80% dominican and 15% black and 5% mex, I did it from 10-11th grade), soccer(haven’t won a game since 08, and track. There’s no debate, student government, math team or anything decent like that that I would be interested in. They claim there are clubs but there isn’t. I tried talking to my AP about starting my own clubs but he was busing suspending a kid for bringing weed and a lighter to school… ■■■

Should’ve gone to Stuy/BxSci…

I think you’re in to some of those. It would help your chances if you could have your guidance counselor talk to those schools about some trouble you had personally during freshman year that caused the failed classes, or if you can write a compelling and interesting essay about how much you improved.

got into BxSci but mom wouldn’t let me go(live in UWS). Got a 610, which was good enough for stuy but I put it last as I didn’t think I’d get in.

First of all, apply for Questbridge. It’ll certainly help your admissions chances, which already seem pretty good due to affirmative action.

What’s more important for you is actually narrowing down your list of schools. As a high-achieving, low-income black student, you’re going to get into most, if not all, of these schools. In fact, at most of them, you’ll get full rides because of your income. Dartmouth, Columbia, Brown, Yale, MIT…these schools are all extremely different. What do you want out of your college? What kind of campus do you prefer? What kind of student body do you prefer? Besides the fact that I can’t see what kind of an environment you’re looking for, you’re going to find it nearly impossible to decide between all of these schools next April (assuming you get in everywhere).

Definitely think about narrowing your list down. It’s not at all a bad place to be, but it has to be done. Best of luck!

bump… …:D

Self studying isn’t that big a thing. First gen, low income, and black are all huge pluses. Your hours will also help you and your SAT is good. Do you have an explanation for why you got F’s in those classes?

Definitely write about lacrosse on your app. As for the school funded EC’s, that will make up for your lack of them, but usually when a school offers no EC’s and a student is aiming high they take up an EC outside of school, like a sport, instrument, or something else. Despite all this, I think you have decent chances.
