I just wanted to share some info for all you prospective pages:

Firstly, a recent article about the program.
[Head of Page Program to Depart Soon : Roll Call News](http://www.rollcall.com/issues/56_125/-205752-1.html?pos=hbtxt)

Second,
In Spring 2010 when I was a Page, we organized a House Pages vs. Senate
Pages kickball and ultimate frisbee game on the National Mall. The
Senate Pages were proud to have won ultimate frisbee, and they got a
brief posting in the Congressional Record stating that they beat us.
They didn’t however mention that the House Pages won the other game - kickball. Because of this, Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) gave
an excellent one minute speech on our victory, that not only went into the Congressional
Record, but was also broadcast live on national TV (C-Span)! This is really good - please watch

I was reading an article about a fellow page and was quite surprised to hear that the application pool for the Page Program was nearly 70,000 applicants. Can anyone confirm this (I’m a bit skeptical) ?

Article: [Political ambitions fuel St. Henry grad | Kenton County Connects](http://cincinnati.com/blogs/kentoncountyconnects/2011/05/25/political-ambitions-fuel-st-henry-grad/)

Yeah… I don’t know how accurate that is, but it seems a bit over the top… considering each district is supposed to represent 500,000 people, that would mean that 1.4/10 people in the district applied… which is basically impossible since you can only be 16 or 17… so statistically i cant see any validity to it…

I think they meant 7,000 (maybe out of the whole US, too). But 70,000 is almost certainly incorrect–someone might want to leave a comment to the article asking for verification of that figure.

I assume the 70,000 applications referred to the total national applications (like what chaseholl said). Still, that assumes nearly 1,000 applications for each Page position. I have emailed the author to find out where the number came from, so hopefully he will get back to me shortly and I can relay the information. I am curious because if the number is accurate, that would mean the acceptance rate of the Page Program is a mere 0.1%, which is astronomically low, considering the most selective US College admits 5.5% (Juliard).

is there still time available to apply for the page program ? i really want to ! but im a rising junior for the 2011 - 2012 school year.

nycat,
There is still time if you decide you want to be a page. Since you are a rising junior, you have already missed the application windows for the summer (2011) and fall sessions, however, there is still time to apply for the spring semester and summer (2012). If you intend to apply for the spring semester, you should get started on the application process asap, as deadlines will be quickly approaching.

I worked on my current congressman’s political campaign. I don’t really think I should apply through him so, can I apply outside my district? What should I do?

When will the deadline for the 2012 Summer session be up? I don’t want to miss it.

You can apply outside of your district, but it’s up to the other rep(s) if they will take such applicants. Some will, some won’t.
You’ll probably have to ask your rep’s office for that information, although I doubt they’ll know, either. Just start calling them early next spring to see if you can apply yet.

The deadline for this summer was may 13th so take your time cause you have around 11 months til the time comes

Is there a lights-out schedule enforced on both weekdays and weekends? I’m applying for the fall 2012 session, but I’m trying to find out if I can self-study a few APs if I do get accepted. So are there strict bedtimes, or are pages allowed to stay up to finish homework?

dondarush,
There is not a strictly enforced bed time, rather, the only requirement is that you are in your respective hall before 10pm. Pages regularly stay up past 12. Generally, the Residence Hall Proctors won’t care as long a you aren’t making noise. So, if all you are doing is studying, I doubt it would bother your roommates or the proctor so you would have no problem staying up late.

Does anyone know when the fall term deadline is?

Hey! This will sound outrageous, but I’m a sophmore. And I already know my summer is too busy to do the page program summer 2012. I’m wondering what the approximate dates are for the winter term. (I’ll be applying for Fall 2012.) Also, is there anything in particular senators want to hear on the essays and recommendations. I’m torn on whether to do it in Fall or Spring(what are the dates for spring term). Because doing the program in the fall, means no tennis. And the Page School doesn’t have AP courses, so if I do the program in the spring, I woudn’t be able to get AP credits. But apparently if I do it in the fall my school might let me transfer into AP classes in the spring. What should I do? I need the tennis to keep me well rounded, I do too many arts programs, otherwise.

Which semester is the best one to apply to? I’m an incoming sophomore (Class of 2014), and I’m pretty sure that I can apply to next summer’s (as an incoming junior), but I was wondering if applying as an incoming senior would be better. After all, as a junior, I would have better ECs and more leadership opportunities. Also, which sessions are less competitive? (Lol, sorry, I had to ask, even though it’s probably impossible to discern.) I’m kinda worried about applying to the semesters during the school year, also, and would rather do it incoming junior year (next summer). But because of the aforementioned qualities, I am a bit hesitant to do so. So any advice/comments are welcomed!! Thanks!! (Also, sorry for using sessions and semesters interchangeably… I’m too lazy to “consistenfy” (I’m going “Shakespeare” on you guys, as future-President/Supreme Leader Palin would say, haha) it. Again, thanks!!!

ivy,
Fall dates are from the end of august to the end of January. The spring term is usually late January to early June (in my case it was Jan 24-Jun 2). In terms of AP courses, it really depends what you mean by “AP credits.” While the Page School will not designate any class as an AP class, they will give you the opportunity to take any and all AP Exams that you wish. So, you still can get the AP credit in terms of a college credit, it just won’t show up on your high school transcript. Congressman don’t read the applications, but the staffers that do are looking to know what sets you apart from the rest. Why should they choose you over someone else? There is no one thing that you can say that will significantly increase your chances. I think I answered all your questions, but if you have more (as I’m sure you do if you’re anything like me), feel free to message me!

Geo,
Both semesters are great! The summer program is good too. The Summer session is more competitive, even though it is not as good. In terms of fall or spring, either one is better than summer, but my personal favorite was spring. If you’re set on the summer session, I would apply your junior year, because even if you don’t get in, you still have another chance your senior year. Best case scenario, you could serve both summers, which is actually more common then you might think. Message me if you want to talk specifics, I’m sure I can help!

Hey
So I’m interested in applying to the fall 2012 session and was wondering when it would be appropriate to contact my congressman for more information.
Also, when are the fall applications usually due? thanks :)

Good day everyone :)

I’m going to be entering sophomore year once the school year starts. I was hoping I could attend this program during the summer of 2012. However, on the website it says I have to be 16 by the start date of the session… Is there a possibility that they could make an exception since my 16th birthday actually occurs during the summer. In fact, if I turned 16 this year It would occur during the 2011 summer session.

I swear every thread dies after I post in it lol.
