I don’t know if I’m going yet, but I’m holding out!

has anyone heard anything?

hey guys,
i’m looking to apply for the 2012 fall school year. when’s the best time to apply? If I don’t get it, i was planning on running for key club Lietuetenant Governor, and elections are held by February. I was wondering if I would know if I got into the Page Program so I could base my decision to run for LTG or not…? And if not, what are the chances in getting into the program?

So is it absolutely clear that this will be one, gigantic session from June 27th to August 5th?

That’s a ton of time to commit.

wizi- yes, there will be one 6-week summer session.

heyitsme- I’m not sure I understand your question. You said that you are applying for the fall 2012 term, but you were hesitant because of your key club elections in February. It seems to me that you could even do both as the page term will end at the end of January. Obviously you will know whether or not you will be participating in the fall 2012 session before February.

Well, the key club term starts in april 2012, and lasts until april 2013 which would interfere with the fall 2012 term. It was something I was going to do during my junior year, but the Page Program seems a lot more beneficial

I ended up having to mail the application express to my congressman. It did arrive today (the deadline given to me), but the liaison did confirm the “delays” and had me fax over most of the application (non-Form 7/8/recommendations) in the mean time. Is this typical?

And not to pester, but I noticed on the application that the Congressmen must submit their recommendations/certifications by May 13th. Would it be wise for me to call Friday and ask whether I’d been selected?

I’d wait a week or two, first.

@somestudent

I would not advise calling…You just have to let the process play its course… Some offices don’t tell who they’re nominating until their nominee is accepted by the Speaker’s Office just in case the speaker’s office were to reject the nominee. If your congressman’s office chooses you AND chooses to tell you before they forward your app. to the Speaker’s office for final review, then they will call you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t bother them :)

I am tired of waiting! I’m calling them to find out something at least…

^^^^
It’s not a big deal. You shouldn’t hesitate to call. No office in their right mind will judge you simply because you are curious. That of course assumes you haven’t called a ton…a few calls is fine, but don’t pester them.

To be honest, there’s really nothing they can tell you. The Speaker’s Office is in the process of confirming nominations and your Congressman’s office has no authority over whether or not their applicant gets accepted. I’m not sure whether or not you’ve already been nominated, but if you haven’t heard from your Congressman yet it’s likely that you weren’t chosen.

Just an update, final acceptances by the Speaker’s Office and Minority Leader’s Office began coming out yesterday!

I’m a secondary candidate, so I was was wondering if the Speaker’s office ever really denied anyone entrance to the program. Does anyone know of it happening?

Also, does anyone know if the Speaker’s office has come out yet with final decisions?

The speakers office does occasionally deny apps but it Is rare, esp. for the summer. And the speakers office has not confirmed anyone yet however the minority leader has confirmed a number of apps so it would depend on your member’s party.

I’ve been told that the minority leader’s office is done confirming nominations and that Speaker Boehner’s office is just about finished.!

Hi-

I am a repeat freshman at a competitive boarding school in Massachusetts originally from Vermont I skipped sixth grade and then when I realized that I would be graduating at 16, my parents decided to make me repeat. Anyway, I am extremely interested in government and public service and would love to participate in this program.

Am also a very strong essay writer…

As you can tell, my strengths are in English and history.

lemon,

Good looks on your resume. Not all of those accepted have extremely high gpa’s. Since you are above the 3.0 requirement, I believe you would be a strong candidate assuming your essays and interviews go well. Focus on writing your essays to convince your M.C. that you are both qualified and interested in the program.

Lemon you need to be a junior, I find it doubtful that they’d make an exception even given your circumstances.
