"It's beyond me that people like him are allowed a college education..."

But has he actually had one?

"It's beyond me that people like him are allowed a college education..."

But has he actually had one?

Finished, no. He does go to NU, right? The 08 is confusing.

"It's beyond me that people like him are allowed a college education..."

-True, I'm sure I couldn't have gotten into BU like you....

"But has he actually had one?"

-Indeed I have. I don't see why you're questioning this.

Not everyone has the resources to go to expensive private schools, so i chose stony brook which generously provided me a scholarship that can let me and my family have an affordable four year college education. And since i attend stony brook, i care about its reputations and how people view them.

it's about one's school pride that's all

"Not everyone has the resources to go to expensive private schools, so i chose stony brook which generously provided me a scholarship that can let me and my family have an affordable four year college education."

-Most elite private schools give the BEST need-based finaid in the country.

"And since i attend stony brook, i care about its reputations and how people view them.

it's about one's school pride that's all"

-And you should care about your school pride, you should not, however, worry about UsNews rankings. They don't paint your school in a good light. When you say you care about how people view its reputation, you mean UsNews, right? I don't see how you can extrapolate how people in general view your school by looking at these rankings.

yes elite schools do provide very good need-based aids.

However although the income my parents listed on FAFSA is over 100K , they also got a lot debt due to huge stock market loss from the past. The aids they offered are insufficient for me to go for 4 years

"Indeed I have. I don't see why you're questioning this"

That fact that you don't see is exactly why we're questioning this. I can only hope you'll wake up tommorrow and feel very sheepish.

most parents and kids put a considerable weight on rankings when talking about a college. There's no way i can totally disregard the news rank whether or not it can truly reflect a college

"That fact that you don't see is exactly why we're questioning this. I can only hope you'll wake up tommorrow and feel very sheepish."

You'll have to excuse my ignorance... I really have no idea what you're asserting.

stony brook is the right fit for me. period.

"stony brook is the right fit for me. period."

-Good. I think everyone should attend a school that fits him, but one should not worry about rankings when his school is ranked so low; that doesn't make much sense to me.

So, you would actually, in everyday conversation, bring up the UsNews ranking for Stony Brook????

He has the same right as you do for NU...

how do you know it's not going up again.

it ranked 117 in 2003, and now it's 98

not eveyday conversation, do you

Hey Nash, are you guys gonna finish last again in the AmEast? ;)

Does anyone bring up their school's rankings in everyday conversation? Imagine's KK's everyday conversation and is greatly amused.

"He has the same right as you do for NU..."

Indeed he does. I don't want to take away anyone's right to say anything. I will, however, exercise MY right to say that caring about UsNews rankings is silly for the top 25-30 schools, let alone for schools ranked in the low 90's. Sure it's good for general information, but using it as an actual gauge of public opinion or how "good" a school is doesn't make much sense.

as said i don't but other people do. so the ranking cannot be overlooked

"Does anyone bring up their school's rankings in everyday conversation?"

-Many people do. I'm not one of them, but it does happen.

""Does anyone bring up their school's rankings in everyday conversation?

Thats called being a bore. If you're a bore who needs to brag and look down your nose and dismiss schools, than you need to be prepared to spend a lot of your life sucking up to graduates from those very schools. A bore graduating from Harvard won't get anywhere if he doesn't learn not to be offensive. Same with a NU grad.
