It's the only time that's available between graduation for the Class of 2009 and Induction Day for the Class of 2013. Concentrate on your grades.

"Most?" No one I knew had school in late June...

I agree - our schools get out June 9th, and I think that's one of the latest I know of all my friends around the country. My son can still hit session 3 without missing any school. I know lots of areas that are out before Memorial Day. But it's really up to you. Either study for the written exams if you really want the opportunity to do this, or don't do it if you think the lower grades will affect your chances of getting in. It's certainly not required. My son's school was very willing to work with him missing school - he hopes to do all 3 seminars and miss the last full week of school and finals week.

Summer seminar isn't a shoe-in to get in anyway. Most of us never went to one. And yes, those first three weeks or so of June are the only time to do it, because the rest of the summer, basics live in those rooms.
By the way, if you're going to SS this summer, please clean up after yourselves when you leave. Don't leave vast amounts of food and stuff behind- you have no idea how LONG it takes basics to clean that stuff up, especially without a vacuum cleaner... and they're not allowed food in their rooms without permission, so you've basically condemned them if the cadre find it before they do.

Summer seminar was a lot of fun... but that's about all it was. While you do get to visit the different academic departments and what not, its really not a good way to gauge if you want to come here. As mentioned above, getting into ss does not guarantee an appt. But, having said that, if you can go without hurting your grades too bad, DO it!

Was it SS or Sports Camp that made those messes because it'd be mildly impressive if SSers made that much of a mess when they had a mock SAMI the morning before they left.

I applied on February 28, 2009 around 8:00, how long will it take to find out whether or not i got in?

depends on how competitive you are

I'm not sure since I've never been to SS. Whoever stayed in those dorms before usleft food, glitter, clothes, and other stuff lying around. Not that you've said that, it sounds like it would've been the sports camp kids. Andthe C-store and just run out of vacuums... end rant.

I've never gone to one of the sports camps, but it seemed to me and all the other people in my element last year that they were basically allowed free reign and almost zero accountability when they were there. Plus I think most of the SSers would have been too scared to leave any sort of mess that could hurt our evaluations!

But hey, you're done with that now, so it'll be my turn to deal with that soon possibly.

Cool, so you won't mind cleaning up the floor with tape. :)

good times! :D

My son attended sports camp at USAFA when he was 12 and it certainly seemed like the kids were allowed to do whatever they wanted. He had attended West Point's the previous summer, which was much more structured. At USAFA he ended up requesting to be moved because his roommate kept blasting a stereo and yelling and screaming until like 2 or 3 in the morning (which, since we were living in Michigan at the time, seemed like pretty much all night to him!). I'd put my money on them for the messes!

I received my acceptance Tuesday afternoon. Thanks for all the support and insights. Not sure what session I will attend. Need to juggle the school calendar and other SS's. Back later.

contrats camillethecat!

way to go, and have fun. I really enjoyed SS, and while it is a poor representation of what life will be like here, it does give you a chance to see the academy, meet some teachers, and get a feel for what basic might be like (although that is only one day)

camille, are you trying to do both navy and army? or just one of them

I got into USMA, USAFA and USNA. I am trying to figure out with guidance and my parents how to fit more than one. Keep you all posted. K

Hey all. Anybody else attending Session A (June 3-June 7)? I'm actually still in school then, but I figured it's better than missing finals which would interfere with the other two sessions.

I'm going to session A. I'm actually leaving school 3 days early, because Friday, June 5 is my last day of school.
