Im not going to go deep into it, but to calm everyone's nerves I will tell you about my acceptance. I ended up with a cumulative gpa of below a 3.0 (but my last couple years were a 4.0). Anyway, just decided to work my ass off... Got all A's like I said, did lots of volunteer work, wrote a good essay, got great letters of rec. and hoped like I have never hoped before and I got it. This is my first semester and I love it. It is such an awesome school, and even more so since they pick their students the way they do. Everyone I have met has a cool story, has started a business, is brilliant or has something cool about them, at least mostly. Anyway, Fight On everyone! Dont give up hope, its all worth it when you get here!

do you have to declare your major if you apply as a sophomore?

You can apply as an undeclared sophomore.

oh, well that's reassuring. i can't decide between international relations or journalism. i know, a bit random. being able to apply undeclared is definitely a plus.

another quick question: i took a sociology class this past summer and got a "c" :(. I already know that usc does not replace the grade if i retake the class and get an "a" but does it still look good?

That's a little validating I guess. You should address that C someplace in your application if there were special circumstances that caused you to get that kind of grade.

Regarding your original question though: how many units will you have before you transfer?

um, i will have 35 units at the end of the spring semester.

Oh okay. Are you aware that b/c of your low amount of units that the admissions people will also look at your HS stats?

...you probably do but just thought that was worth mentioning.

i was aware that if you have below 30 units, then yes, that is the case.

what happens if im still taking classes during the summer in my community college? and they still need those grades do i just get rejected? [qoute]

anyone? lol

uh, what?

The only grades that they look at when considering you for admission are any grades earned on or before the Fall of the year before. They will also look at the Winter grades that come after that but this depends on your school's academic calendar (many may not have these grades available to them when applying). Last but not least there is the possibility that you will receive a Spring Grade Request. This is if you haven't already been accepted or denied.

And that's it. If you're talking about taking classes during the summer right before starting Fall at USC, then you can transfer them, but they will make absolutely no difference in whether you're accepted or denied. I'm sure that you can figure out the rest (i.e. why).

ohhh. well this is good to know, i thought you received a spring grade request regardless and that is what helped to determine your acceptance. well, thanks then, you've been a great help. :)

Is this relating to junior transfer? I'm not applying for a scholarship :|

Do transfers need letter of recommendations from teachers?

I'm thinking about transfering to USC as a sophomore, but my high school grades aren't great. My junior year I averaged a 3.8 and my senior year a 4.1. However, My freshman year I received a 2.8 and my sophomore year a 3.1 (basically I never did any work...which is why I'm currently attending a less prestigious 4-year university out of state). I have a lot of ECs and currently have a 4.0 for my freshman year. Also, I scored 2000 on my SAT. Im worried though that my poor preformance from the beginning of high school will hurt my chances of getting in. How much weight is put on the first two years of high school as opposed to the second two years of high school and the first year of college. will my chances be hurt because of those grades? Also, will the fact that I am out of state, even though I'm from California, hurt me at all?

Krisy221, from what i've seen and heard, the first 2 years won't matter in your case, especially since your a transfer, not a frosh applicant. in any case, your upward trend will be really helpful (they do look for an upward trend)

Can't believe we're barely/already in October. USC feels so close yet so much farther.

Is Everyone Pumped Or What?!?!?!! :d

Lol I am for suuuuuurrrreee

Any art history prospective transfers? I think I'm one, that or philosophy. Would love to connect with other prospective transfers.
