USC 2009 transfer thread

So does anybody have any good ideas for an easy 2nd choice major to get into? I was thinking Religious Studies or maybe Sociology? If I'm going to be a Junior can I just make my 2nd choice as CLAS.

hippo - are you pre-law?

and I know you've been trying at this for at least longer than most of us. Best of luck.

I don't really know yet. I've thought about doing law, but I've made no definite decision. English is such a versatile major, so really, I could do many different things with it.

Right now I'm just hoping to get admitted. It's the first step.

I was also considering an English major, but decided to stray from that. There are plenty of majors out there that are also writing-intensive. And I'm not that into literature.

Anywho, is anyone else here not able to enter this courses/grades on the online app? What's the deal with that?

I'm business, but left my second choice as undecided. Applying for Sophomore year.

They've redone most of the application site from a looks perspective, though most of the content is still the same. I saw the addition of the courses and grades part, but I am unable to click it. Are other transfers able to click it? If I remember correctly, last year there was no such place for transfer students to enter grades. We were just to send in both High School and College transcripts. So, could it be that the courses and grades part is just for freshman applicants?

That's what I was thinking. This is probably the case.

hippo I need your opinion on my app... I want to eventually enter SPPD at USC (school of policy, planning, and development) but haven't done any of the pre-reqs. I'm going to take one of the pre-reqs in the winter and the other two in the spring. To maximize my chances, I'm applying as Open for my first choice and SPPD as my second. The only reason I think this might be permissible is because I won't have the 64 required units to be junior standing - I'll have 60 and will technically be a sophomore, right? What do ya think?

Hey I just faxed my college transcript's and my high school transcripts. I got the email saying they received my high school transcript, but they didn't say if they got my college transcript.

It just said this...
This is to acknowledge receipt of your fax. Thank you for submitting your documents.

Applicant: My Name
Date received: 1/11/2009
Document: High School Transcript

Am I supposed to get two emails? One for high school and one for college?

What are the prerequisites for SPPD?

Also, I thought that 60 units was junior standing. Maybe I'm mistaken, IDK.

I would apply to a major that is not as competitive and then transfer from within. Maybe WOT can tell you if that's a feasible alternative.

i heard that USC does not want to admit people with over 64 units, well that's what my admissions officer said: "Typically we are hesitant to admit transfer students with more than 64 units"

oh and the prerequisities for SPPD (i am also hoping to transfer there) is both macro and micro econ and pre calculus

I'm pretty certain that junior standing is 64+ units.

This person was probably referring to transfers from another 4-year university. Community college students are not penalized for having over 64 units - the majority of them will have well over that amount. I think that only 64 units will transfer over in any case, though.

I'm taking macroecon in the winter and micro econ + finite math in the spring. Finite math can be used to fulfill the pre-req instead of pre-calculus. Jocelyne, where do you go to school? Would you mind sharing your stats?

I go to Pasadena City College (california) and i really dont have any stats from college since my school has yet to release my fall grades yet :/
but I have taken both econs, math and 2 english classes and in the winter/spring, going to complete the GEs categories thing plus diversity and language

hopefully someone could give me an advice about my case. i just want to transfer to USC thronton....

i only have 9 units and will have more by the spring..... i dont care if they look at my HS transcripts but the thing is that i didint go to HS here in the US and back in my country they didint make us take any SAT test.
And its been 4 years since HS so it will be hard for me to actually juggle in SAT testings while im so busy and working hard in college. Can they possibly look at my transcripts, recommendation letter ,and grades in college instead??... i mean, are they really that strict that they will force me to take the SAT test so they could just see my SAT scores???

cause im very confident about my transcript in HS and recommendations, but it will be a totally new thing if i have to take SAT tests cause i had stopped school after gaduating to work and earn....

cause it is hard when you have been away fror quite sometime, and im still adjusting to college life.... I cant possibly juggle in SATs testings because of my busy college life.....

Pls give some advice..

The application asks for GPA and credit units based on transferrable courses. I come from an out of state 4 year college, and don't yet know if all courses will transfer. Should I just put my current college gpa?

Hi guys, I had a question for transferring to Marshall. I will have my micro and macro econ outta the way, but I won't have the math requirement (calculus). Since I am applying for sophomore year, will they pretty much deny me admittance without having the math requirement yet?

kathybaby, anything less than 30 credits they will look at high school and SAT scores, so my best bet is that for the benefit of getting in, is to take the SAT's... i dont know if they will FORCE you but they might just not even accept you if you refuse to take them...not really positive but thats why they have that rule

mcguigs, i put my current GPA because i checked the articulation agreement and all of my courses transfer over, but no one really knows for sure but USC...so i guess its up to you on that call

i just want to know, for transfers, do we fill out the FAFSA as continuing students (since well, we are continuing college) or do we fill it out as new students (maybe it counts going to USC as being a new student..) ? this question has been bugging me for a while haha :(

I'm pretty sure it's continuing... we'd be new to USC, not college.

so grey, our FAFSA isn't due February 2nd but sometime in March? My dad told me that it would be almost nearly impossible to fill it out because the company doesn't give out the tax papers until like January 31st

i know you fill out fafsa every year you want financial aid

and i thought u could turn it in at any time but the later you wait the less money u can get/if you do get accepted, you wont find out your package when u get your acceptance letter

zircushio-
I think that the 2/2 deadline is intended for freshmen.

Jocelyne-
I go to PCC too. What professors did you take for micro and macro econ? I'm taking Keep for the winter session. How many units did you take this semester? And how are you going to fulfill all of that in one semester?
