USC 2009 transfer thread

Thanx Huntlytraders461....it's kinda hard to see what exactly they are looking for, or what is expected, what roles of leadership are they looking for and what about letters of rec. I am currently a public admin. major, and would like any info you have. I truly appreciate it.

Hi guys, im transferring this year and I really want to know that if i can mail my recommendation letter after Feb.2? I have my transcript ready and just need to fill out few parts of the partII application! I am now looking for professors to write my letter cuz most of them are still on vacation........so i dont think any of them will write one for me within 2 weeks......

Yes you can send out application materials a little late. They will still review it.

Hey guys, in the application where it asks to "Add a College or University", it asks for the date you attended until, and to state the reason for leaving. Also, it asks for diploma conferred date. What did you guys do for these sections?

I said that I was attending until May 2009 because that is when my school year ends and the reasons were "transferring". idk about the diploma conferred date, i actually dont even remember that part

Hi Guys,

I'm a Southern California resident wanting to go back home. I am a freshman at an East Coast Private School ranked in the top 35. My HS GPA was around 3.2 unweighted and 3.5 weighted. I got a 3.6 for my spring semester in college. I have plenty of ECs and am not worried about that. I also have 23 credits right now not including my spring semester therefore do I have to put in what my SAT1 and SAT2 scores are? Also what are my chances for fall or spring 09 admit? Also, do my AP scores matter? As I did poorly on 2 of my AP exams my senior year in HS.

My best score for SAT1 was:
Critical Reading: 630 Math: 740 Writing: 590

and for SAT2

SAT Subjects Score: 680 Subject: Korean with Listening
SAT Subjects Score: 640 Subject: Mathematics Level IIC
SAT Subjects Score: 660 Subject: U.S. History

I was also wondering if I'm applying to the Arts and Science school if a teacher recommendation is required? If it is not recommended should I still get one sent in?

Recommendations are not required, but they will take them. It can't hurt.

Is there a form to send in with the recommendation? Or a certain format?

are we suppose to send in transcripts at the very end of spring with the spring grades?

Also if i attend a new community college in spring and I have no record as of yet, am i to send a transcript?

there's no form for transferring teacher recommendations, so they just want a letter in a sealed envelope.

and you should be sending your transcripts of what you have up to now (feb 2nd) and then you may or may not get a spring grades request and then you just send another transcript at that time, or the end of your semester.

When calculating our GPA, do we need to include non-transferable work?

grey_syntactics: Yes, you must include every college class you've ever taken.

hi wot :)

I'm a little confused because, to quote from the application, we are to
Undergraduate GPA:
Indicate your cumulative college/university GPA on a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0) in transferable courses. Include grades earned in repeated courses.
and also
Unit Count:
Indicate the number of transferable semester units/credits you have completed. Do not count units of courses in progress, non-transferable courses, or units for courses in which you earned a grade of W. (To translate quarter totals to semester valuses, divide by (1.5).
...is this the same thing it said last year?

hey guys, I was wondering if any of you can answer this qustion::
You will need to return to this site to download the additional forms (Forms to Download) which are required to complete the application process.
So the forms could only be downloaded AFTER YOu submit your online application? that doesn't make sense. what should the process be? Can't I just print it out, fill it out and submit it?

Also, for USC, what do we need to submit online and what do we need to submit by mail? someone please hlep!

You should be able to access your unofficial college transcript through an online service provided by your CC.

Regardless of what you enter, USC always recalculate your total units and cumulative GPA. Therefore you should simply record the GPA and # of units listed on your unofficial transcript. You will have to send in the unofficial transcript anyhow, so make your current info match what the transcript says.

After you submit the application, some of the fields will be filled in for you. Regardless, there is a link in the application to download blank versions of the forms. Go back to the additional forms page and you should see it.

There are a variety of methods to submit your application materials. I personally am going to submit the application online and mail all supplemental materials (this includes transcripts, letters of rec, fin aid documents, etc).

I submitted Part II 2 days ago and already sent out all the supplements (including recs, test scores, transcript, and bank statement) Do you guys know when the earliest day of decision release is? I'm sooooooo worried >.<

They try to get decisions out by June 1. Some come a little earlier and some come a little later...as in late July.

Do we need to fax or mail-in an unofficial transcript as well as an official one?

@WestCoast4Life: you can do both actually, just make a note on it saying that the official one is on its way :D

Hey guys, what other schools are you also applying?
My list is USC (Of course :D)
WashU
Johns Hopkins U
