How does USC know if someone has taken online classes? My transcripts don't show that I've taken online classes

Sorry, I'm sure this has been answered but I don't really want to go through 43 pages. Can someone could please give me a quick answer? I am a freshman at a UC and I will have 30 semester units by the end of this year but not by the time my application is submitted.

Does USC not look at high school stats if you have 30 units by the time of application submission, or is it by the end of the year?

schad, really sorry I don't know the answer to that.

Everyone else - are you all doing the CSS Profile thing? Is it mandatory or do you all think that FAFSA will suffice? I want to get the best aid possible from USC.

If you will have 30 units by the end of the year, they won't look at SAT scores. They do look at high school just to make sure that you passed... In fact if you did really "bad" but you're doing well now, it might look even better than if you did well...

And idk about financial stuff. My parents are doing that...

I JUST submitted my app... I wanted it to be "before last minute" so yeah...

I have dreamed of going to USC since I was in high school but never had the grades to get in(2.45 overall GPA). I am a music guy....I play guitar, piano, and have my own recording studio and plan on majoring in music industry (B.S.). I now have changed my academic ways since attending community college and have an overall gpa of 3.4 with 30 transferable units. I have sent in letters of recommendation from my professors, boss, and music instructors. I spent much time on my admissions essay and had my professor review it. I also have a huge resume of music/extra curricular activities. What do you think my chances are at getting in since I am applying for music? I know that my gpa isn't ideal, but I still think I have a chance. Has anyone gotten in with a similar situation?

The thing that everyone loves about USC admissions is the "holistic" approach. Yes, you do have a shot if your app is excellent.

For those of you applying to Marshall, are we supposed to fill out the supplemental pdf application in addition to one we filled out in the main application?

I'd say probably... But I'm not a business major. Since it is a separate school, you should fill it though.

i did a search on THIS thread and found no questions regarding: the average GPA for biology majors. i have an down-up-down trend in my gpa. and not so stellar ECs. you think i have a chance?

The supplemental form for Marshall is online. One of the "boxes" in Part II of the application is the supplemental form.

The form asks you your grades for the pre-reqs: English, Math, Econ. As well as the optional accounting classes: Financial and Managerial.

I must say. The admissions site is MUCH improved over last year. Hopefully it will continue to be much better throughout the process. It was a mess last year.

schad - I'm pretty sure as long as it's 30 by the end of the year they won't look at your hs stats. However, make sure to note this on your app with the classes you intend to take and if they are going to consider you, expect a spring grade request.

You don't really need to tell them of your credit situation. They know from your transcripts and "current classes" list in the activity summary.

Guys... all I got left is the short answer section: those two questions are

Describe your academic interests and how you plan to pursue them at USC

AND

Why are you planning to transfer?

What's the difference? Any ideas on what to write? I know what to write for the second question, as that is more of a 'suck-up' question, but the first one is a little... tough...

Any advice guys? Thank you!
Describe your academic interests and how you plan to pursue them at USC

AND

Why are you planning to transfer?
The second one actually reads "Why are you planning to transfer to USC?"

The difference is that the first one is specific to what major you plan on pursuing at USC, and the second one is nonspecific to your major, but is specific to USC as a school.

So the first questions you need to ask yourself: "Why this major?" and "Why USC?" respectively.

^ that's exactly how I interpreted and answered the questions.

Good luck to everyone as this is the day all apps will be sent off!

Also I thought we could get a list of everyones first and second choice majors... just copy and paste the list and add your name:

Question. I just talked to admissions and they informed me that everyone will have to send in spring grades before admitted. What's the point of the spring grade request form then? Don't some get admitted without having to submit spring grades??

Yeah they do but spring grade requests are to gage your performance in case they don't have enough information to go by in the grades you submit with your app.

Everyone has to submit them so that they know that you didn't get cc-level senioritis and fail your classes.
