I'm thinking it will be lower due to the economy

Why ?

2006 = 3.57
2007 = 3.7
2008 = 3.65

These are mean GPA's of course, not cut-off GPA's. I'm guessing that 3.5+ can be established as competitive since they seem to range between 3.5-3.7.

Yah, I don't see that correlation...

So I was skimming through some other threads and I came up on last years transfer thread, and there were like 500+ pages compared to our 65. I know that doesn't offer hard facts about anything but that gives me a general impression that there might not be as much of a transfer influx for fall 09. I think that might be where jason0 made his assumption that the economy's state might be playing a factor in applicants interests in USC, because it's pretty much well known that USC's tuition is a little wayward finance wise.

Well in any case, if this has any truth in it, it should be good news for us applicants. The less overall applicants, the less competition = more spots for us! =)

good luck people!

I would hope that to be the case, but they were only at page 54 last year around this time... the rest of your theory seems plausible though, or at least I hope so! lol

not as many applicants because USC is expensive and people are losing theirs jobs, equity in their homes that they had been using as piggy banks, and savings in the stock market. USC and most other colleges will most likely want to keep up enrollments so they'll have to be more lenient and accept people who aren't as qualified but can afford it. Also the dollar is strong so there will most likely be less international applicants compared to last year.

can anyone here pay for USC relatively easily? I know I have the NROTC marine scholarship.. that's the only way i'm paying for it

I think no matter what financial circumstance you're in, it's just smarter to rely on an external source to help with tuition. It's just not practical to rip out a 40k check annually when there's so many resources out there to assist students with college funds. Idk that's just how I see it because usc will seriously make its mark on your bank account =(

Yeah once I either rob a bank or marry rich (or both!) then I can pay for it easily lol

I just hope the gpa for 2009 is a 3.0 so then I would have above the mean and so would everyone else in this thread haha

Oh and another thing, I have a general question for anyone who can answer it:

I'm a sophomore transfer so I basically know that I'll be receiving a spring grade request (if not a flat out rejection). What are the certainties of spring grade requests resulting in an admission if the grades are just as good/better than the gpa you applied with?

Or is there not really any way of telling?

Wow third post, I'm a CC junky buuut for anyone who's interested in what the upcoming updates will look like are, I found this on last years thread. Hopefully it helps!

February/March - "We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application."

April/May - "We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1."

April - "Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by June 1. If for some reason you don't receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning June 11th."

April: "The committee has acted on your application, and we have mailed notice of the decision. If for some reason you do not receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results this over the phone beginning June 11th."

The time ranges are really just generalized time frames, and when I say generalized, I mean not very reliable at all hahaha.

Happy waiting everyone!

Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2009)
We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1.

Status last updated: 02/23/2009

just got an update today... im sure they'll be asking for sgr soon

Is everyone done with the financial aid stuff? I haven't filed for tax return yet. Though I've filled out FASA and Collegeboard Profile, the dead line for submitting tax return document is Mar 2. Is it ok to fax them a lil bit later?

Question: If you get accepted as a sophomore with a major, can you change it once you get there?

Yah, you can change it as a sophomore. That's what i'm banking on if I don't get into the Comm school.

So yah, if anyone had noticed, the transfer students from last year made a facebook group and since we have this sense of competition with them for everything, I decided to make a cooler one for all of us to join. Hit it up and maybe it'll help us in the future for housing and things :D

uscplease- The reason why we had 500+ pages was because last year's applicants were neurotic, (myself included) and had a lot of redundant side conversations, lol. That being said, every bit of information and status update timelines, the orders of admissions/rejections waves and the app. review process is in there. It's the same every year. :)

grenerd- I saw that, it's a great idea. :D

Thanks WoT!
Haha now that you mention it, I've just been getting really nervous about the whole thing and so I went back to last year's thread and saw posts from you saying the same stuff I would. It's reassuring to notice that you were going through the same things we are (hopefully our outcome will be the same as yours too!!)

yeah sometimes i stay up really late and just read past years' threads all night haha
