USC 2009 transfer thread

that's kind of what i was thinking.

i really hate all this waiting, its making me psyche myself out

So its safe to say that if you get a SGR, and if you can get straight A's (or as close to it as possible, like maybe just 1 B, as I am taking 19 units) then your chances should be pretty good?

archieg, are you a sophomore or junior standing transfer applicant?

Right now I'm a freshman, trying to transfer as a sophomore.

me too! wait are you the guy that goes to ucr???

what classes are you taking next quarter?

archieg - I got all A's in 12 units on my SGR last year and was still denied, so it is really hard to say. Maybe only taking 12 units hurt me? Maybe it was the fact that I applied for film? I really dont know... and this waiting it absolutely horrible. makes me psyche myself out too, i got through days where I see myself getting in, then days where I feel like there's not a chance in the world..

No I go to Glendale Community College lol.

And btw blsdmf, YES! I know how it feels! For every day I "know" I'll get in, there's a day or two filled with doubt.

But you know what? Screw it. Just work hard this semester, and everything else will work itself out. If it's meant to happen, then it will.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. JUST FOCUS ON SPRING.

That's what I'm doin'. It's only, what, two and a half months left, right? Piece of cake!

I hope... lol

blsdmf -

i think it was probably the 12 units. usc is really keen on the amount rigor in our courses. but with those kinds of grades in the longrun i'm definitely sure you'll make it this time =)

and i understand where you're coming from about the going back and forth, i've been doubting myself these days and it's not a good feeling!

hahah woopsies sorry archieg, there's so many people on this thread. i should probably become familiar with everyone. this thread is my only source of moral support!

my friends have no idea what i'm going through, this is SO STRESSFUL =(!!!!

Yeah... that's my solution, just focus on spring, and forget about the big yellow envelope (or the small white one....) If spring goes well, then I shouldn't have to worry.

Also... is there any way to change my first or second choice major after admitting my app?

Because I wanna go from Marshall 1st choice and Econ 2nd to Leventhal 1st choice and Critical Studies 2nd.

ALSO is critical studies tough to get into?

i'm doing a leadership program camp during spring break so that i can show usc how dedicated i am.

basically, i'm giving up my spring break for USC! that's either determination or intense paranoia hahahah either way, i hope it helps.

ps. i'm officially a CC junky...sorry for the third post in a row people

just keeping it alive brotha.

Since all of you are really anxious to transfer out to USC and knowledgable with transferring I was wondering if you can help.

I was hoping if any of you Trojan hopefuls can be able to give me some advice to transferring to USC Marshall School of Business.

I'm currently a freshman at Pasadena City College and will be applying next year for Fall 10'. By the end of this spring semester I will have finished all USC Marshall prereqs (Macro & Micro Econ, Calculus, English equivilant to Writ) and also all the categories except for the one's required to be taken at USC. I'll have 34 units total by the end of this semester which are all transferrable because of the articulation agreement. My prediction for my GPA by the end of this spring semester is a meager 3.6 (it's currently at a 3.45).

I'm part of an honor society (AGS) and I'm currently working while being a full-time student.

I'm a double legacy (one brother graduated from USC Marshall undergraduate and the other is currently starting to go to USC Marshall MBA).

Any advice is appreacited. Thank You

makebank24 -

i know for a fact usc gives a lot of precedence over applicants who hold legacies. my friend in high school was also a double legacy and he got in no sweat. of course that is a minor exaggeration since he had a superb academic record but basically just do as well as you can. 3.6 and above is usually the competitive gpa for USC so you'll be cutting it pretty close, but don't worry with strong ec's and community service i'm sure you'll have a good shot.

blsdmf- I gave the department a call, they said that my major is still for Production and not Undeclared. They transferred me over to the main office of Admissions, who said the same thing. Neither understood why I received that letter, and I don't either. I'm going to call again in a week or so to make sure it hasn't changed.

Also, regarding your comment about days where you think you're in and others where you think not, I'm definitely with you on that one. My nerves have been so crazy. Sometimes I think, "I definitely stand a chance!" Other times I think, "Who am I kidding?!"

I know I'll be out on the west coast by August, I'm just hoping I'm out there on the USC campus and not searching for an apartment close to a community college, hahaha.

knobzie - thanks for the clarification. So it seems that the letters just appeared out of nowhere... lol. best of luck to you.

Why was the format changed? Seems like we lost a lot of names for an unnecessary change.

People must be getting really antsy.

uscplease777 - thanks for the reply

I'm planning on taking the 2 recommended Accounting courses my sophmore year here at community college. As for community service and ec's, I've recorded well near a total of 300 hours of community service during High School at my local hospital and in various clubs, played football & basketball, was a part of spanish club, key club, and leo club. I've worked during the summer at a presitge Escrow company in California as an assitant to an Escrow officer handling financing and I'm currently a cashier/assistant manager on my flexible hours at the local supermarket.

As for the community service and being a part of clubs at community college, it has really dwindled. Currently starting CC I've only recorded probably around 20 hours of community service. I'm probably going to up it around approx. 80 hours by the time I'm going to apply while still working.

Also is 72 units a lot? Because I've planned my schedule for next year and I have a total of 72 units all transferrable to USC and of course backup schools by the end of my sophomore spring semester (next year).
