USC 2011 Transfer Thread

Rumor has it your application moves through several stages.

  • [] Application is sent
[] USC Admissions reviews materials (Transcripts, etc. If anything is missing they will notify the applicant before the application can move forward.)
[] Application is forwarded to desire school (Marshall, Annenberg, etc)
[] Admission Committee decides on the decision
[] This decision is communicated back to USC (I guess this is where if they feel the applicant can succeed and was rejected by their desired school, USC will offer you admission as Undeclared
    [] Decision is sent out

Supposedly this is how it works. Once again based of rumor and speculation but seems logical.

Once you start to see the statues, the above process seems to work.

Thanks for the advice guys. :frowning: I would love to take it at another CC, but the problem with CCs is out-of-district tuition. My mom and I specifically moved into my CC’s district so that we could get the in-district rate, because the CC I’m at right now is one of the top CCs in the country. It really is a great place, but I can’t believe they’re not offering more than two comp courses that are above the 100 level. >_>

And the nearest CC would be a 1.5-2 hour drive for me, plus something like $500 extra, and we can barely afford my current CC + gas cost. The out-of-district CC is a horrible school too, and they barely offer any classes… ughhhhh. I really hope my regional adviser gets back to me soon. :frowning: But someone on the last page posted saying that USC told them it was fine that they didn’t have the writing pre-req, so there must be something I can do. I can’t believe they would just tell me to not bother applying. Ugh, that makes me so mad. The people that answer those emails aren’t even advisers, they’re students. Goldmine of advice.

Also, I agree completely with Mitch’s list. I have a list of 40-50 SCA applicants with full details on status change dates, admission decisions, etc that backs it up 100%.

So I just talked to my advisor for USC at my CC and she said that if you don’t have 30 units when you apply meaning not by spring, but right when you send out your application then they will look at your HS record such as test scores, gpa, etc. Then i mentioned about the Spring request and she said it is only to keep track how youre doing in your classes. I think she was wrong though, considering the majority of resources including everyone here says depnding if you have 30 units by the time you TRANSFER which is at the end of spring, not when you APPLY, they willl look at your HS stuff. So if i apply with less than 30 at this time (i will reach 30 for sure at the end of spring), should I put down my SAT/ACT info on the 1st application? because i dont have 30 units at the moment? or just leave it blank because i will have it by spring?

BTW, do you think filling out the first application affects your admission at all? Especially if you complete it all, does it look better because it shows you’re really interested and serious about getting in? Even if it is optional? Are there any stats showing this?

jaajaa20 - nah, Part I is only for statistical purposes. Your adviser is wrong about the 30 units… that’s like the one answer we’ve consistently been getting. 30 units by spring and you’re golden, provided they all transfer.

Dreamupsided0wn you have to talk to your regional advisor! I mean that is very unfair, and I think that if you state your case logically they may give you a useful answer.

jaajaa20 I emailed the undergrad department and they told me specifically that it was by the END of spring, so maybe your adviser didn’t read the question properly, or was in hurry, but this “end of spring” theory is pretty accurate considering many of us from different parts of the country go the same answer. As for the part 1 app holding any weight on decisions, USC has stated that turning in PART 1 in no way does it affect(better) your chances. It is simply for statistical purposes, and your App PART 2 is about 10$ less expensive

Hey guys, I’m new to these forums and I have a couple of questions but first off…I’m currently a freshman at san jose state university and i am hoping to transfer to USC in the fall of 2011 as an economics major. Now, I’ve been surfing the USC website and on the dates and deadlines page it says that Part 1 of the application is optional, so what are the benefits of completing it? Lastly, is the essay in the second part of the application? When is the second part due? Thanks a lot guys :)

Hey guys. :o I submitted P1 a few days ago and now this is my status:

Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2011)
We have received your Part I application. You must still complete your Part II application to be considered for admission. See Dates and Deadlines for the appropriate filing deadlines.

Yay. At least something is moving along. XD

@Pinstripe - I emailed her but I probably won’t get a response until Monday. D:

@KurryKid - Welcome to the thread! The only benefit to completing P1 is that it reduces your overall application fee by $15. So if you pay the $10 for P1, your P2 will only cost $50. The essay is in the second part of the application, which is due February 1st for both scholarship and regular consideration. Some programs have earlier deadlines, but since you’re applying for a CLAS program I think it’s 2/1.

Digital and Print Journalism! :D

Hey im kinda scared about filling out application 2 because I put down business administration for my second major option thinking it wasnt going to affect me at all in any way and now the Marshall app is there for me to fill out. Do I have to? Is there any way i can go back and change the sec major? Im worried.

jaajaa20 - Why are you worried? Don’t be scared! :stuck_out_tongue: If you really don’t want to apply to it anymore I think you’ll be fine as long as you change your major choice in P2.

Alritey then thanks dream. I hope i can i dont wanna major in anything else but journalism! thats why i just filled in whatever option i can use in the future but now i learn :-P

Okay so everytime I log into USC site to fill out part 1 , the tab for undergrad admission does not open ! I filled out my profile, and everything, but I cannot open the tab to fill out part 1. I have been trying for a few days, but its not working. Am I doing something wrong? I should try opening it at the library tomorrow !

Sorry! i figured it out.
So, I have to write my estimated GPA. I started college a month and a half back and its going pretty well, so should I just write a 4.0 or should I type in the gpa I got in HS school?

nainasethi13 - leave the GPA blank if you don’t know your first semester college GPA.

Hey guys, does the USC college (clas) have any specific required prereqs to get in? Economics is my second choice, and marshall is my first; i found the prereqs for marshall but not clas?

Changed my major choice to Business Administration because I realized I could finish the pre-reqs by the end of my spring semester for Marshall. Put open/undecided as my 2nd major choice.

Also what is the Writ 140? I’ve taken english comp 1 and 2 at my CC so far.

PikachuTrojan - [url=<a href=“http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/transfer.html]Transfer”>http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/transfer.html]Transfer Students - USC Undergraduate Admission/url

“Students wishing to be more competitive in the applicant pool should consider completing the suggested courses listed for their major before transferring. Completion of the following courses is not a prerequisite for transfer admission to USC.”

Economics, Economics/Mathematics, International Relations (Global Business) - FL [foreign language requirement]
ECON 203 (Principles of Microeconomics), ECON 205 (Principles of Macroeconomics), MATH 118 (Fundamental Principles of the Calculus) or MATH 125 (Calculus I)

dazedNconfused20 - Do you mean the required WRIT 130? Or are you just asking about WRIT 140? Read the course description and compare it to your CC’s. Or, look at your school’s articulation history with USC and see if there is a course listed under the Writing section.
