USC 2011 Transfer Thread

Sooo I’m applying as Undecided or… Philosophy, Politics and Law… Looking at the Articulation agree with my school and only two classes of mine transfer but my school offers a special english program (that the treat as two english classes so it’s offered for 4 credits, while the other two are waived) and it counts at MY school as English I and English II equivalent but I’m not sure how USC would treat this? I’m assuming it wouldn’t work so I couldn’t transfer but if it’s not then I’m confused because I have no other option now?

-If it helps I attend Penn State University and the class is L A 101H (it’s offered only this year for a second time, in contingency with the Paterno Fellows Program)

snizzle - that seems like a good person to get a rec from but only if they can actually provide insight about your character and NOT just for their name. :P

On its website, it says AO considers every applicants for a spring space.

You can’t specifically apply for spring but, yes, you are considered for a spring spot.

@relin
Thats interesting that you were able to sign up even though the event didn’t come up in the events tab in uscconnect. But it doesn’t matter for me because I wont be able to make it anyhow. Thanks anyways and have fun!

Guys, the deadline for thornton is coming up (dec 1st) man im freaking out! Wish me luck or if you believe in prayer do that too haha i feel so alone cuz i have to get in my materials a month early!

I’m starting to get a little nervous. After the spring semester, I will have complete all of the GE requirements and the diversity requirement. If I don’t get in this year, there will be next to nothing for me to take that will transfer and apply to my major.

Hey guys. I’m applying to usc this fall too and I have a few questions.

 1. I want to double major … I want to do Critical Film Studies (which is obviously in the Film school) and then I also wanna do either Econ (L&S) OR Business Admin. Now - do I have to apply to all 3 schools (e.g. USC College, USC Film School and USC Marshall) or do I just apply once and indicate it on the application?
 2. Are the applications different?
 3. What’s the average transfer GPA for Marshall and the SCA? I have great ECs (actor, assisted some very famous people who are going to write a recommendation for me, also 400+ hrs of community work at Cedar’s Sinai) and my application essays are really good as well (at least my teachers said so). I only have a 3.5!? Is that too low for SCA and Marshall? I know the average transfer gpa is 3.69 for L&S.

It’d be great if you could answer my questions.
Thanks,

As a Writing for Screen and Television prospective transfer, I have the same deadline. I know how you feel. I need to get letters of recommendation and just edit down my writing sample and then I will be good to go, but it feels like a lot.

Hang in there.

Hey everyone! Good luck to all those who are applying! keep studyin hard and workn hard! You can do it!

Fight On

At transfer day, will post pics soon :)

Do you guys know if people who are applying for accounting/marshall have to take a language? Right now ive signed up for 15 credits, and my language classes are 4, at my school we’re not allowed to take more than 18 credits. :frowning: Can i just take a placement test (that is if i get in) when i get to USC?

You don’t need to take a foreign language before transferring. It is a grad requirement but not a transfer req.

Add me for Marshall. I probably would get in (my stats far exceed USCs standards)…only 1 thing is getting in my way…that is the criminal background check. ): Have misdemeanor for weed.

I was suspended in my senior year in high school. You smoked weed. They know not everyone is perfect, especially transfer students. :)

add me for Marshall as well… as of now i have a 3.9 GPA and a part-time job (25+ hours / week). The only thing i’m worried is the failling quarter at UCSD, but it was because of a family emergency. I will explain that in the personal statement. Just wish they can really take that into consideration and give me a chance.
PS…sigh…very depressing now…

From now on, if anyone says they’re applying to Marshall I’ll just assume they’re doing Business Administration. XD

 1. Unfortunately you can’t declare a double major until you get into the school. However, you can still apply to multiple schools and then choose one if you get into all of them. The only thing is that you can only apply to two majors (and you are automatically considered for the Open/Undecided major in CLAS if you don’t get into your two choices).
 2. The applications have very different supplements. I can’t really tell you about Marshall’s, but SCA’s consists of several writing samples.
 3. Generally anyone 3.5+ pretty much stands on equal ground. I don’t think there are any official transfer statistics for the specific schools, but I assume that both are slightly higher than CLAS’s.

I’m also applying for next fall as a junior. CLAS as a chem major.
I have a 3.96 with not very much extracurricular work aside from a ton of community service. Do you guys know if they put a heavy emphasis on involvement in school activities? I work so it’s been nearly impossible for me to get involved on campus.

what are the required transfer courses?

Technically the only classes that are required to transfer are intermediate algebra and writ 130 equivalent
