Pinestripe and roffle, what classes did you take this semester?

Hey guys, I have a 3.1 and I’m wondering if I should apply to SC at all. I really want to but I feel that my gpa will automatically make them reject me. The only reason I can attribute to this gpa is working during cc. Any suggestions? Thanks

Roadrunner what are you applying for? If you are applying for Marshall, then I hate to say this but you don’t have a chance, but you never know until you try.

I got another question for people on this thread, I’m coming from a UC, so does USC consider the fact that courses at UC’s are a bit harder than at CC’s? or do they not care?

@CallofDuty84 In theory, I’d assume it would level out since it is considered harder to transfer from UC’s to USC, but it is true that some classes are harder at the university level. So I guess it wouldn’t put you at an advantage or disadvantage.

For Annenberg applicants, do you guys know if they have their own form of a letter of rec or tell my professor to just write it in regular letter format? Also, the letter of rec goes with the rest of your app along with transcripts at the same time right? Or there’s a different deadline?

Please respond thanks

holkey - Yeah man, I think you’re right. I’ve noticed though that all the applicants that come from UC’s from the past years like '09 and '10 have all been accepted though.

Gives me some hope even though I’ll have 28 units by spring.

hey guys
im finish with finals, things went well! I know im going to apply for marshall, but i think i should have a second choice as well. Should I apply as undecided? Something not as heavily impacted?

Hows everyones GPA looking so far?!
good luck everyone!

@ jaajaa20 I had the exact same question as you about LOR!

@laxlove Yeah I still dont know
Whats your major btw?

Also another question that everyone should respond to not just annenberg, those 30 units are from all courses youve taken added up or just the courses that are listed in the articulation agreement? Cause if you count all units for only the articulation ones, it doesnt add up to 30 so im confoosed

Haha my GPA so far at UCI is a 3.75, waiting on my anthropology grade for now. I’m still a bit worried about my W this quarter… anyone wanna cheer me up? perhaps maybe you know someone that has gotten into USC with a W? I’ve read somewhere on CC some dude got in with 13 W’s… now thats ridiculous.

whats a W? I dont think we have that or call that at our school.

@ jaajaa20. I was thinking the same thing. Cuz i have no idea what classes are going to transfer. or if they taken AP credits into account. and @Callofduty84 great gpa! You should be fine since ur Gpa is so good!

Roadrunner: Depends on what school you’re applying into; Either way, it wouldn’t hurt to try. You’ll never know. DO NOT USE WORKING AS AN EXCUSE, THEY WILL NOT HEAR IT. Write that essay and blow them away!!!

PikachuTrojan: Second choice should be something that you won’t mind getting a degree in. Personally, I would opt for S.P.P.D. or Economics. You will automatically be considered for undecided if you’re applying as a freshman/sophomore and have been turned down by your first and your second choice major(s). You will also have the opportunity to apply for Marshall as an INTERNAL transfer, but I don’t know the statistics on the success rate. GOOD JOB ON FINALS!!!

jaajaa20: the 30 units count from TRANSFERABLE course work, not total units taken. You can have 40 total units, but if only 29 of those are transferable, you will not meet the minimum requirement for admissions to base their decision solely on your college performance.

CallofDuty: Good job man! One ‘W’ won’t hurt, but it doesn’t help either. Just make sure it’s your first and last. Keep continuing on forward and working hard, forget about it! Two W’s on the other hand… good luck with that.

Laxlove: A ‘W’ is a grade; It means “Withdraw”, which means you dropped the class before the semester ended. You can drop a class without receiving a ‘W’, but it has to be done within a specified time, usually the first 4 weeks in a 16 week semester (depending on your institution).

Hmmm thanks budlightyear. Well I emailed my regional advisor about it and he said the 30 units are from courses that appear ONLY in the articulation agreement not UC/CSU transferable courses which now leaves me with a bit of concern…

@laxlove, you can find out if theyre usc transferable under the USC’s articulation agreement. I dont know if it applies to universities (?) most likely yeah but for CCs it does.

Budlightyear: Yeah, I got so sick my fourth and fifth week, so I had to drop but I managed do well in my other classes. So yeah you’re right I’ll put that in my past, and strive for a 4.0 next quarter and in the spring as well. Finals went well, I just thought of USC and worked my ass off.

So many people are applying to Marshall this year! Good luck to everyone!

@Roadrunner - Yeah budlightyear, don’t mention anything about working, they won’t care. Write an essay that shows that you really want to go to there! I know someone who got a C in their pre-req and got in for the Spring, so you never know, you might get in for Spring too
does your 3.1 consist of B’s? B+'s, or C’s?

Personally, I wouldn’t mind a Fall or Spring Admission
I just want to go to USC at some point!!

So are any of you SC sophomore transfers putting in some HS EC’s? I have a lot of good ones that I want them to know about :)

Roadrunner, maybe you can put in your essay the circumstances which led to you having to work. Maybe it was family issues, financial, health, etc.

@callofduty84 Yeah Im going to be a sophomore transfer and I was mainly going to talk about my high school EC’s considering Ive only been at college one semester…

I have all B+s ( not all, more As ) , but my college only recognizes As, Bs, Cs, Ds, and Fs. I want to let USC know that I got all B+ , not Bs. Is it possible if I can write this somewhere in my application?
Please let me know.

Under the “Short Answers” section there is a box for additional information.

Since I am a journalism major, I will have to write my letter of intent in that box .But now I am seriously thinking of faxing it to USC, and writing my situation in the small box. I hope thats ok.
-LORs are due by march 1st.
