Are you ? Lol

OMG!!! I didn’t even start my essay yet. I am having huge writers block. How did everyone get their’s started? I am planning to do the first one on values and beliefs.

I’m having a lavish love affair with my essay. It’s going to be waaaay too long and then i’ll have to edit it way way down

my essay came to me extremely easy. I wrote them like short stories. They’re going to get a million formal-sounding, super restrained application essays but mine is unique and enjoyable. I think :)

Just wanted to wish everyone here a good luck as you finish your apps and start the long wait. I was in your shoes last year but it’s all worth it in the end! Hope to see you all as part of the Trojan Family in 2011. If you have any questions on the process, let me know.

Fight on!

YAY all of my grades have been posted!
B in Stats, but an A in everything else… 3.7 for my first semester! :D

Great job! Congrats, dream!!!

Does anyone know what the USC ID is used for, and if I don’t have one, how can I get it?

USC ID is a randomly generated 10 digit number that each applicant receives. Your USC ID is issued if you submit the Part I application, so if you haven’t done that you won’t have it yet. Once you submit the Part II application, you will get the USC ID and can use it to complete the forms (LORs, Cover Sheets, etc). Your SSN will also work.

Yeah im also having writers block…but im settling on the lightbulb essay. I feel that after you finish the actual essay and short answers a huge weight will be lifted off your shoulders…Then CSS/Fafsa won’t feel so herculian. :)

Is there anyway we can find out our USC ID number before we submit Part 2? I want to send in my transcript when I go back to School on the 3rd

@dreamupsidedown: congrats, good for you. I think you’re gonna get in w/ your current grades. For mine, all Bs…for my 1st quarter. Now i’m depressed, i dont even have the mood to finish my application any more.

@ callofduty: when you log in USConnect, there’ll be a board called “admission document”; just click on there and you’ll see your USC ID which is a 10-digit number

Ex: xxxx-xxxx-xx

Is there any way to send in my transcripts without first submitting my application? I don’t think my application will be finished for another few weeks.

@tantungnam - what school you applying from? And did you get any B+'s? What major are you applying for?

@snowboard - Yeah, they want the transcript to verify what you say in your application. It’s fine if you send it before you submit your application. They won’t look at transfer apps till March or April. They have thousands of HS Seniors to evaluate.

@Pinstripe: I also did the light bulb prompt. I talked about how I earned enough money in less than one year to buy my car (a stock, zero bells and whistles but still amazing car!) because I was told the car I was using was going to be sold. I needed a car so I could keep shooting the news stories for the school news team.

@snowboard: I’m not sure if you can do that…ask alamemom. I’m sure she would know.

And does anyone know about the “average” person that applies to USC? Like what is the applicant pool like? We all have awesome stats but the fact is that only 26% of transfers are offered admission. Are we just extraordinary here on CC or is the applicant pool really, really bad?

@sydneyral

The applicant pool from College Confidential is definitely skewed. Generally, most people do not have the dedication to post on boards, or find out what it takes to get into USC. I’ve heard countless students of saying “Yeah. I want to transfer to USC,” but do not have the drive or motivation to accomplish the goal. I guess you can say we’re the best of the best. Plus 26% is higher than their Freshman admittance rate of 22%.

@Sydneyral: That sounds like a really cool essay! It certaintly tops the typical mainstream essays I read from a few friends. Now if i could just find a story from my life that has that whole oscar award winning thing going for it…slim chance…but a boy can dream ![]()
I always want to see anyone’s theories on the “avergae applicant”, because from what i’ve heard, the college confidential kids are never a good measure of “typical”. My assumption is that at least a good fourth hasn’t much going for it, the other fourth may have the grades but not the activities or vice versa, the 2nd upper fourth has both “goods” and likely to get in, and then we have the upper fourth…e.g people who make your volunteering and summer programs look like child’s play. I’m envious of that fourth.

@callofduty: im applying from uc santa barbara . And no, i got all B, no B+ but i took the difficult math class, not business calc but calc for those who major in engineering, physics, or math. Anyways, i screwed up my mid-term…

i am applying for business admin, my 2nd choice is econ…

@Pinstripe: Yeah, that upper fourth has something we usually don’t. I don’t think it’s so much drive as it is a support system or someone shoving them along.

For example: both of my parents have two year degrees (AA and AS) and therefore didn’t really know about how competitive college admissions were when I was in HS two years ago. I was never encouraged to volunteer, take AP classes, do summer programs, etc. They didn’t know. Then you have people who have parents who have been preparing them for college since they were conceived: that upper fourth you’re talking about. They have it made.

I’m not at all blaming my parents. I didn’t care about anything in HS and therefore it is my fault I didn’t have what it takes to enter USC as a freshman. I am very grateful that USC has a pretty decent transfer acceptance rate and that transferring is even possible. VERY grateful.

@sydneyral: my parents didnt even go to college, and obviously they didnt know anything about school and stuff. They sent me to the states when i was 15 which was about 3 years ago but they only decided on the christmas day of 2006. Thus, i only had 8 months of learning english. My first 4 months in the states was like hell, even when i started get used to with things here, i couldnt take any APs or honor classes because my english was so limited back then.

I used to have some grudges against my parents because they made me suffer but now im grateful. Not just because they sent me here but because they gave me chance to challenge myself as well as being more responsible. I think both you and me know what to do now, all we can do is wait and see. If you try hard enough, you’ll get in. If not, probably try again some time later or just happy with where you are.
