USC 2011 Transfer Thread

How did everyone do in the writ 130 equivalent? I’m pretty ****ed right now because I just found out that the english class I took my first semester at Fresno State counts for writ 130 and I got a B :frowning: I was going to take an english class at city this spring but there’s no point anymore.

@Jaajaa: I’d be more than happy to read over your ideas/essay.

PM me if you want to see my essay for some inspiration of your own.

Is it good to apply without letters of rec? Im unable to contact my profs… :(

What if I cant get a certain class I need for spring but Im listing it under my classes? Am I able to change that after I submit the apps?

Guys, Im also having trouble deciding if I should still apply to Annenberg. Of course journalism is my number one choice but Annenberg is really competitive and I dont have a lot of the materials that they ask for. I feel like theyll see my “portfolio” as a joke. Im still applying to USC and my second major is psychology. I dont know most likely Ill still apply to Annenberg just because journalism is my number one choice and since there is no way you can have journalism as your first choice and not apply to Annenberg at the same time…right?

@ sydneyral and callofduty thanks! Ill send my ideas pronto. :)

@blackmamba2410: I think I asked that question about not getting the classes listed to an admissions councilor over the phone. I forget the word-for-word conversation but she didn’t make it out to be a big deal. They know classes are being cut because of funding.

I’m sure as long as you fulfill the requirement the class fulfills it will be okay.

hey guys so my essay has 876 words thats 176 above the 700 limit! Will USC cut out the words if i turn in the essay as is or should i cut it down to 720? Let me know btw its 2 full pages and 1/4 of page on word times new roman font 12 double spaced! any advice would be great thanks!

@jeezha: I’d cut the essay down.

Following directions says a lot about an applicant. I think it would put you in a better light if you cut it down, even if your writing is great.

I just ordered my transcript, and SMC will send USC my fall 2010 transcript. Do I still need to fill out the cover sheet? It says that USC will have my fall 2010 grades within 15 days.

Hi all, I was wondering if applying without a High School Diploma hurts my chances. I am currently in a community college with 45 units as of now. I will appreciate your responses and suggestions. Thank you

nainasethi13, It takes SMC 15 days to send the transcripts? I guess I need to get started with that. And where do you get the cover letter from anyways?

Thanks for the essay advice lastly if you want to send letter of recs will they read them or no? and do you just ask the teacher to mail it to the office of admission with your name and usc id on the envelope? Thanks guys!

Hmm…it appears I’m in a bit of a situation regarding getting an updated transcript to USC by Feb 1st.

My winter grades won’t be posted until Feb 12…So Should I just wait until the 12th to send in my transcript with my fall/winter grades or should I send in my fall grades now and send in another transcript on the 12th? I just want them to know that I completed my ENG 102 requirement in fall and would have 30 transferable units at the end of winter…

Synderal, send you fall grades asap and your winter grades by february 20th…and make sure your current transcript shows your winter classes “in progress”

Do I need to send in cover sheets even though SMC will directly mail my transcript to USC?

nainasethi13- I don’t think my transcript will show my winter grades “in progress” is that okay? I’m going to be writing what courses I’m taking in the winter anyways on my application…

@nainasethi13: Got it. Why Feb 20th? Is there some date I am missing?

No, it usually take professors some time to process grades, so I was just giving an example.

Ah. Well our grades for winter will be in on the 12th, so I will probably be sending off another transcript then. I just filled out the transcript cover sheet though, so I will take it in tomorrow and have my CC send in an update. I should probably print out another paper specifying that this transcript is an update…but I’m sure they know.

Can someone please answer nainasethi13’s question about sending in the cover and closing sheets if the college will send the transcripts electronically? I mean, it does say on the cover sheets that many electronic methods are acceptable OR you can use those sheets.

HELPP! where do i get my USC ID?!
