USC 2011 Transfer Thread

I’ll be transferring in with 41 transferable credits, as a junior I’m assuming. I need to take 1 more prereq… might take it over summer.

Singing Brandi Carlile’s “The Story” at the top of my lungs right now… dedicating it to USC.

To have a junior class standing at USC, you must have a minimum of 64 units; for first year transfer students, that’s 64 transferrable units (total units don’t count). This is also the maximum amount of units that USC will accept (for most majors) since they require a minimum of 64 residential units to obtain a degree from USC; 128 units minimum to graduate.

I regret coming into USC as a Junior because most leadership programs and internships that are offered by the “big 4” accounting firms are offered only to Freshman/Sophomores.

@Paragon24 : Transfer students can’t transfer in as Accounting majors into Leventhal. In order for transfer students to become Accounting majors, they will first have to get accepted into Marshall as Business Admin majors. They will then have to take certain accounting courses, under Marshall, and earn a minimum grade of ‘B’ in those courses. Once that is done, then they’ll have to fill out a form at Leventhal and apply for accounting.

Honestly, Paragon24, I’m sure you’re a great student, but your GPA is extremely low for Marshall / Leventhal. Even accounting majors who are currently at Leventhal have to maintain a certain GPA in order to stay in the accounting program, otherwise, we get one semester of academic probation, if we don’t shape-up, we then get booted out of Leventhal.

My status just changed to "We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1. "

I’m not sure exactly when but I just checked it tonight. I’m really surprised, last year when I applied my status didn’t change till April/May. I hope that somehow this is good news!

What is your major and when did you submit your application ?

No status change for me :<

Marbas, wow exciting, could mean good things !

I applied for Film Production as my first choice, and English as my second choice major. I submitted practically everything in the week before that it was due. I also turned in all my supplement materials for film production literally right before midnight on january 31st and almost all of my financial aid documents right after that.

@snizzle77 Thanks! I really hope so. But I still won’t find out for another 3-4 months sigh

@Budlightyear: What would be considered a competitive GPA to get into Marshall? The Marshall website says a 3.6, would that be a good estimate (I’ve heard people say 3.8-3.9)?

@paragon24

They say people with a B average will be strong applicants but that is not the case. If you look at the stats thread last year most people had 3.8 + GPA. Of course there were a few below that line but the average was definitely high.

@Marbas: Wasn’t film production due on December 1st? I know Writing for Screen and Television was.

Is your status still the same “we are reviewing your application”?

i wanna know the decision already…haha does anyone know if you either get spring grade requested or accepted by june? or can they just deny you the first time around?

Well you only have three options:

A) Acceptance. (Usually letters are sent on Friday’s and in waves, meaning all decisions are not released at once but rather in intervals.)

B) Spring Grade Request. Prolongs the decision but can be seen as an indicator of interest. Why else would they want to see your grades if they could just flat out reject you?

C) Rejection. Following freshman’s time line the majority, including me, found out their fate near or around April 1. My status was updated 1.5 months before the deadline and never changed until the last days. It seems USC holds all rejections until the end. My letter was dated March 28 and arrived April 1; the date we were suppose to find out our decision.

so if i was spring grade requested last year that means there was an interest? im sorry you were rejected last year i ended up being rejected around June but i believe it was due to the amount of credits I had completed and partially my GPA, i was stii surprised I got Spring Grade Requested though

It’s alright. No worries.

But here is the reasoning behind the whole SGR:

It can be a good sign because if you weren’t a competitive applicant they could just deny you. Why go through the trouble of sending a SGR to see your grades when they can just deny you outright?

On the other hand it can be seen as you’re borderline. The SGR can either make you or break you.

Of course this is all speculation just like anything on these boards but through my time on here the majority agree those appear to be the outcomes of a SGR. Of course SGR serve other purposes as well such as to see if you are indeed taking a prerequisite or how you are doing in that specific course.

One more option:
My D got a SGR & then was accepted in mid to late July as a January (Spring) admit transfer. It worked well for her but she had despaired & thought that USC had forgotten about her & just hadn’t gotten around to sending her a rejection letter.

@snizzle & coolio good to see other del fans haha

I really can’t wait for the decision, its driving me crazy. I have a 3.5 in engineering at a pretty good university (Northeastern), but I’m worried about getting in and I really do not want to be here anymore.

@sydneyral

nah, that was the deadline for freshman. Transfers had until Feb. 1st.
I think Screenwriting is the only program where transfers have to turn their applications in on Dec. 1st with freshman. All other transfer applicants are due Feb. 1st.

And I hope you get in to screenwriting! I applied last year for that and they should let you in just for making you wait 6 months to find out if you got in or not lol.

@deltron

Really? I have a friend who went there. She also didn’t like it. Ended up transferring.
