I need to also update my FAFSA. :C

:)

It might have something to do with those 38,000 freshman applications and 10,000 transfer applications that have to be decided upon…

48,000 applications. Approximately 1,000 have been notified. Only 47,000 to go! 37,000 will have to be ready within the next three weeks, and the other 10,000 will have either a decision or SGR by June 1st. :)

@sydneyral … no they’re actually the same office, its called the “USC Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.”

honestly, its my second time applying to SC and this has never happened. I know they’re busy, but THAT busy?

is an idiot

I just updated my FAFSA. Now here comes the silence. There is truly nothing left to send to USC. No transcripts, supplemental materials, financial aid forms, nothing. Feels weird.

@sydneyral … haha don’t worry about it; i wouldn’t have known that if it didn’t say it at the top of the letter i received. congrats on getting everything in; now time to wait :/

finally got through to admissions. they said to ignore the letter i got and told me my documents will be updated in the system by this friday.

@hyethga4lyfe

Don’t worry, I took exactly the same path as you as far as the transcripts (sending in the first time and bringing it in to the office the second time, then receiving the scary “request letter” and freaking out), but there is nothing to sweat about as long as you have the receipt for your submission.

As scared as you were, I called the office the first thing in the morning asking about my transcript. At first I was told that it could have been lost due to my name change after marriage (my high-school transcript is under my maiden name, whereas my USC application is under my current/husband’s last name) and was advised to bring it in to the office again.

So I drove there and brought my transcript to the admission, and talked to the same lady to whom I hand-carried my transcript the last time. She remembered dealing with my transcript and told me to just wait b/c it simply takes about 1~2 weeks to process due to the great number of letters they’re handling. Also, the “request letter” is nothing personal, they just send it automatically to those whose documents are not processed on their computer. The date I submitted my transcript was 2/22 and the lady told me to at least wait till this Friday, and if it still doesn’t update my status, then to call again.

And as of the update on missing the FA deadline, the counselor at FA office told me that I don’t need to submit any letter of appeal to explain why I was late, nor need to worry about my funds being reduced. She said that within this time frame (I suppose around the month of Feb), they are collecting all the FA documents and as long as I submitted them around this time, I’m fine. In my mind, I didn’t fully understand why then they even have the deadline of Feb 2nd, but I was greatly relieved to hear that. But again, it is EXTREMELY STRESSFUL to deal with the worry so if I had another chance, I would never, ever, miss the deadline.

I’ll update as soon as I hear something. Sorry for the long post.

Hey their lines are still busy, so are they finishing up with freshmen applicants still? When will they start with transfers? lastly when will freshmen know by

@whisper11 … thanks for that! makes me feel a lot better to know its common for this to happen. at first i thought i was just extremely unlucky and they just kept losing or not processing the stuff i was giving them. the lady told me it won’t affect my application in any way and to wait until the end of the week, so i guess i’m a little less worried. the weight won’t completely be lifted til i see it updated on my usconnect though :)

@prok2010 … freshman must be notified by April 1st i believe. i know that last year people received acceptances as late as the last weekend of March. then the rejections came last.

^^ oh ok thanks when will they begin to review transfers then, is that mid march i guess?

@hyethga4lyfe

Your welcome. I feel you that we won’t be completely worry-free until seeing an update on USConnect. I’m checking up on it like hourly and I can’t help it… I think I have an anxiety disorder this month :(

By the way, are you having a problem with your high-school transcript or college one? In my case, college transcript is already processed. Whatever happens, I hope my high-school transcript won’t play a role in my admission decision since I completed 55 units at cc and I don’t need to borrow any units from my high-school credits.

@whisper11 … yea same here! i check it whenever i’m by a computer. its unhealthy :(

my problem is with my college transcript. SC already has my high school transcripts because i applied last year as a senior in high school. however, i submitted another official one with my college transcript just in case. i think you should be ok; the only reason they need your high school transcript in your case is to confirm your graduation date. its a proof of graduation.

@hye so they said by friday? Hopefully that applies to everyone… Im constantly checking too…

@AF … yea they said friday but first she asked me what day i brought in the stuff. not sure if she just calculated how long it usually takes for them to process from that date or if thats a general date when they expect to be done with the majority of documents.

What is the typical GPA an admitted student is expected to keep for his or her final spring term?

@mikesmaru i would assume equal to or better than your first semester GPA. But this is just a guess… If you had a 3.9 and it dropped to a 3.84 or something I think it would be okay. But a significant drop might make them hesitant

California transfer applicants: Be sure your FAFSA is filed by tomorrow, March 2nd and that your community college has submitted your GPA verification to the California Student Aid Commission.

Even if you are currently receiving Cal Grant, you must file the FAFSA every year by March 2nd to continue to receive it - the CSAC is inflexible with the March 2nd deadline.

This applies to ALL the California universitites to which you are applying - not just USC.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1095138-fafsa-deadline-cal-grant-wednesday-march-2nd-new-returning-students.html

So on the email for finaid it says:

“Transfer Students Who are Currently Receiving a Cal Grant:
If you received a Cal Grant at your previous college, you will need to transfer the grant to USC by posting a school change at WebGrants for Students at www.csac.ca.gov.”

What do I do to transfer the grant? I did my fafsa already is that enough?

Does USC do this for everyone or was I unlucky just sent them the completed tax retrn as requested had already done the on line tax form for parents income

@catlover2 I don’t really understand what you’re asking? Are you saying that you had to send a copy of your parents tax return after you uploaded one and you want to know if anyone else did? If so, it didn’t happen to me I just uploaded in pdf format.

@bangkok,

My issue is that I have a 4.0 with 53 units. I’m taking 18 upper-division units now, and I might be getting one B and one C or two Bs. I’m pretty scared about my GPA falling in the case that I get admitted without a spring grade request.
