USC 2011 Transfer Thread

hey does anyone know anything about Cal Grant CC Reserve? I got a Cal Grant in high school, then i notified them that i was going to a community college so they put it on “CC Reserve” until i transfer. i’m not sure what exactly i’m supposed to do … wait until i transfer then get the reserve lifted? reapply? its impossible to get in contact with the cal grant office

also, my documents were FINALLY received!!! my document portal has been updated. my application still says:

We have received your application, and it appears we need more information. Please ensure you have submitted all required items. Due to the high volume of application documents we receive, allow sufficient processing time.

but hopefully that’ll be updated in the next few days. :D

Don’t worry about your application status saying that. Mine said that for a couple of months after I had submitted everything.

AF1990: You will do you school change after you have been accepted and decide where you wil attend. To change, log into WebGrants for students and choose the tab that says, “School Change.” (But not yet :slight_smile: )

OK, confused about the financial aid situation. and of course, their office has been busy all day.

My financial aid section says i require the following three things:

 1. Income and Expense Declaration Form, Parents 2010
 2. Tax Return, Federal 2010 - Parents
 3. Tax Return, Federal 2010 - Student

The third one i submitted with a file upload. The second one was a link that led me to a form where i just filled out the info for my parent’s returns. (strange, because i didn’t have to do this last year; i just sent them the actual tax forms)

as for the first thing, i didn’t have to do it last year; do you guys have that as a required form too? seems like a LOT of work to fill that thing out; a little ridiculous even considering we’re not even accepted yet.

Two Questions:
If you get a C- in a USC Transferable class, will that transfer over?
2) My parents won’t fill out their taxes until April for some weird reason and I’m done asking them why because its more stressful for me… so if I upload the tax returns in April, would that be considered late?

Thanks everyone, hopefully we can get through this stressful process.

@CallofDuty84 … 1) it says "Courses graded with less than a ‘C-’ " will not transfer. i’m guessing that means a C- is still OK? call the counselor for your region and ask so you know for sure.

2) try to get them to do it! i’ve been bugging mine for over a month and they finally filed yesterday. its a priority, and although SC isn’t too strict with deadlines its best to get it in asap. also, they do state on their website that late documents can result in a reduced financial aid package. i know in an earlier post someone said that sometimes they don’t even reduce the package for late filers; i wouldn’t risk it though.

So. I just called the admissions office to see if they have received everything and a counselor told me that they have already looked at my application and want to see my spring grades. What on earth? I kept asking her “Are you sure? My application has been reviewed?” and she firmly confirmed that it has…

This just makes absolutely no sense, especially since my status says they’re still missing things. Maybe she’s looking at my file from last year (got an SGR last year).

I don’t know what to believe… I’m calling again to speak with someone else.

I’m enjoying my visit here so far and went to the transfer info session today

@panther13

definitely call again and ask. make sure to mention you applied last year and got an SGR last year. sometimes they don’t look into it enough. i remember when i was checking on my transcripts they said “yes we received it, don’t worry” and i told them i applied last year as well and then he checked and said “oh, actually there are no new documents submitted. this is from 2010.”

hyethga4lyfe- Yeah I was just wondering. I know, i know…trust me I’ve tried…but they just wanna wait til April. And Im already under stress with finals and midterms that I don’t have time to go beg them.
Panther- what did you apply for last year?

So deadline is May 2nd?

@callofduty

i got an email from SC about financial aid documents about a week ago. it says the deadline is March 2, 2011.

@hyethga4lyfe

I gave them another call and another counselor still insisted that I send my spring grades. However, this one put me on hold like three times and sounded really confused. She told me to call back tomorrow. sigh

@callofduty

School of Cinematic Arts- film production

^^ so your deadline must have been earlier that they are saying to send your spring grades

I’m so confused about that financial aid thing that’s due tomorrow. I never got an e-mail from them or anything and I’m looking on the site now and I don’t even know where they want me to enter the information. It’s tax info for 2010 right? What if my parents don’t have their tax stuff yet (I don’t know if they do or not, I should ask)? Can I just estimate like I did for the FAFSA and CSS?

@coolio2244242 … don’t estimate, the parent’s tax return form for USC specifically says that you should not use estimates. you need to use your parent’s 2010 filed tax return.

@panther13 … so strange!

Hmm That’s what it says on their website though… May 2nd…

can someone please type what their letter said after you submitted your application?

the one that came in the mail

@callofduty

scroll down to number 4

The may deadline is for continuing students.

I seee… my bad… Thanks for the clear up. So the FAFSA and the CSS are different though?
