well the priority filing deadlines for fafsa and css were feb 2 … then you go back as soon as you have taxes and correct them … march 2 is cal grant, student tax return, parent tax return, and parent expense sheet

USC asked for my parents tax return
and a copy of my parents tax return

I filed my parents tax return online and did the same with the “copy” of my parents tax return online as well. Did I do the right thing because I’m not sure if they meant copy as in physical, it doesn’t make sense that they would allow me to upload it ( which i already did) any input? USC is also asking for my css profile and fafsa which I already filed a month ago should I be worried?

is there an increase in transfers this year also?

@bingbingbop

As for the css profile and fafsa, it takes time to upload on their website. Mine just got updated as “received” today (I submitted them on 2/19). I’m sure they received your applications but a month seems a bit long… You can call the FA office tomorrow and they’ll tell you if they see your applications on their computer as they did it for me, but their phone line tomorrow will be horribly jammed so beware (maybe start calling at around 8:58 or something). I’m another person worrying about my online status (my HS transcript and tax return still being “requested”) but I’ll wait till this Friday before calling their office again.

About the other questions you asked, I don’t have any good answer…

@hyethga4lyfe- Yeah I submitted the FAFSA and the CSS on that date…so do I have to make the corrections? I didn’t do that last year for UCI… (currently on a loan)

Yeah well the reason why my parents are delaying is because someone is doing their taxes and their appointment is in April apparently… Sucks, but I guess we got a lot to calculate. So if I explain to USC the reason why the tax returns are late… would that be okay?

@CallofDuty84

yea definitely. i was actually going to suggest earlier that you write them a letter explaining the situation. they’re really understanding; especially if you tell them in a formal way.

and yes you have to make corrections with the new tax returns. fafsa is easy, you just go online and update it. for css however, its really annoying! you have to make the changes on the hard copy, then if you go into the financial aid documents section, “CSS Profile Corrections” is one of the options under “Documents”. There you can either upload it or get fax cover sheets to fax it.

@bingbingbop

i think i know what you’re saying. the one that says “2010 Federal Tax Return, Parent” is not the actual tax returns. its a form where you fill in the info from your parent’s tax returns. its a click-able link in the financial aid documents section. once that is submitted, the one that says “copy of 2010 federal tax return, parent for verification” is the one where you upload/fax the actual tax return forms your parents filed.

get it?

@callofduty I am on the same boat as you. My mom can’t file her taxes because she is currently dealing with the passing of my grandma. I have to wait till probably the end of march before I can submit anything else. :-/

For everyone who submitted their fafsa and css but do not have it shown in the document library, make sure your SSN is in your profile. Thats how they link the forms to your name. I just waited on the phone for 30 minutes in order to get that answer from them

Also, the deadline is 9 pm pacific time!!!

So USC says the tax return 2010 info is due March 2, but taxes arnt due till April…?? Confused!!

Question: I’m trying to change my school for my CalGrant…but the system won’t let me. Do I have to change my school to USC by today?

My GPA verification is in, but they still need information to complete my FAFSA…

Is anyone else having trouble making an account on the calgrant website? It says that my information does not match the FAFSA. I need to see if my GPA verification was sent it.

Hello applicants,

School changes on Web Grants for students should not be made until you have been accepted by a school and have decided to attend. Today’s deadline applies to submitting your FAFSA with at least one California school in your first three choices, and your GPA verification submission to the California Student Aid Commission.

Good luck!

Thanks alamemom! :-)

admissions line is busy again -_-

i need to ask about the corporation tax returns they want from my dad. i convinced my parents to file early but there is no way i can convince my dad to file the company taxes early :/

I emailed my regional counselor about whether my College Writing course at Northeastern would transfer for WRIT 130 requirement and still havent heard back. If it doesnt I’m screwed…

I’m really confused about the whole financial aid thing. I haven’t submitted any documents but in the financial aid “my documents” section, it shows that I have nothing required to submit. What exactly would I need to submit?

Can someone tell me if I need to inform USC about my dropping classes at cc this spring semester? And if I do, how do I do that? I dropped all of my 4 classes in the first week because I had already completed 55 USC transferable units and my A.A. degree, leaving me no reason to take any additional classes this spring. I never thought about this until now but am starting to get worried… Thanks in advance!

@reelfilm, I’m confused about the same thing. How important is it that I send (well, “was” and “sent” because it has passed already) in my mom’s and my own tax info? I don’t even know what this is for. I don’t have a CalGrant (live in NY) so I don’t have to deal with that, but if my mom hasn’t filed her taxes already then can I send it in when she does?

I know USC discourages us to take course on pass/fail but if we get a P, do we still get credit? I think we dooo. Just checking.

whisper-email your counselor no need to spend more money on classes!

FIGHT ON!

@hyethga4lyfe yep thanks for clearing that up.

So sorry for reposting, on the pass/fail policy… for the 2009-2010 brochure, it says, "Required courses taken on a Pass/ No Pass basis
This is discouraged, and may affect your
admission. However, as many as 24 Pass/
No Pass semester units, including up to 4 units
of General Education course work, may be earned
toward a USC degree by a transfer student.
(Courses offered only for Credit/No Credit are
exempt from these limits.)

Then I looked at the 2010-2011 brochure…

Required courses taken on a Pass/No Pass basis
As many as 24 Pass/No Pass semester units,
including up to 4 units of General Education
course work, may be earned toward a USC degree.
This is discouraged, however, as a large number
of Pass/No Pass course units may negatively
impact your admission to USC. Courses offered for
Credit/No Credit only are exempt from these limits.

As you can see, they changed it to a “large number of Pass/No pass courses…” whereas the 2009-2010 it didn’t say that…

So if I have one, it won’t affect me at all. Well I still wonder if my P would give me 4 units. My friend at USC took a P/F and got 4 units since he got a P.

Any information would help guys!
