USC and AP credit

This is a “just curious” question, S will find out the answers presumably when he meets with his advisor in the summer, but I’m not clear for the most part of how/where USC takes AP credit. Very clear where specific classes/requirements/prerequisites for major are listed but not so clear when GE v. elective credit is discussed…So, an example…if he is not an English major, is a 5 on AP English Comp or Lit good for any credit or to satisfy a freshman English requirement?

AP classes only satisfy GE requirements. I think some AP course satisfy prerequisites, although that is determined by USC on a case-by-case basis.

Here’s the full list:

GE-A: The Arts - Art History

GE-D: Life Sciences - Biology

GE-E: Physical Sciences - Chemistry, Physics 1, Physics 2, Physics B, Physics (C- Electricity/Magnetism), Physics (C- Mechanics)

GE-F: Quantitative Reasoning - Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Statistics

GE-H: Traditions and Historical Foundations - European History, US History, World History

Only scores of a 4 or 5 will be accepted for credit.

@mickey2017

This is one area the website is sorta weak imo (the AP credit area).

They don’t even mention AP Lit and Comp credit anywhere on that page but we called the transfer credit office - as @parkj340 said, it will give you elective credit, but it doesn’t get you out of writing 140 and 340. My D is at orientation tomorrow and has 5s on those APs - I will let you know what they say, as exactly what it counts for is one of the questions we have as well - just to be sure.
