@seabasstian
Well it seems like some of ventura county and orange county kids got it but I dont think central LA kids got it yet. None of mu friends, including myself, got anything yet

Yes, jazz/shredder, despite my resolve to retire, my need for order in the universe forced me to post when acceptances started being reported and no one put up a stats thread! Savages!

And, to provide a bit more structure to the world, here are the USC forum âHow many actually get the scholarshipâ survey results. I have also not heard of anyone who was not offered at least a $4,000/year directorâs scholarship, but for the few we saw bumped down from Trustee to Directorâs after wonderful interviews, it was quite disappointing So assume that if invited to interview you will get $4,000/year, and consider anything beyond that as a bonus :)

In the 2010 and 2011 admission cycles, we did a survey to see what percentage of interviewees actually received a scholarship. The standard USC answer (that this yearâs interviewees will probably get when they go to Explore to interview) has been, âabout half.â Through several admission cycles it seems that the âabout halfâ figure accounts for yield - the number of students who are offered admission+scholarship and who decline that offer are not considered among the awardees.

These results should be considered with caution as the sample is far too small to provide a reliable result AND posters on this site tend to be more qualified than average applicants, however I feel the results do suggest a trend. The percentages were consistent from 2010 to 2011.

The 2011 result is as follows:

Results Summary

A total of 49 reporting results

29 received the scholarship for which they interviewed = 59.2%
11 were bumped up Presidential â> Trustee = 22.4%
9 were bumped down = 18.4%
Of those bumped down,
1 Trustee -> Presidential
1 Trustee -> Deanâs (1/4 Tuition)
3 Trustee -> Directorâs ($4,000)
3 Presidential -> Deanâs
1 Presidential -> Directorâs

No students who interviewed reported that they did not receive at least a Directorâs scholarship.

In all, 81.6% of those who interviewed were awarded at least the scholarship for which they interviewed or were bumped up.

CADREAMIN,

The students who are being notified early have:

Applied by the Dec. 1, 2012 deadline to be considered for the larger merit scholarships

Been admitted early to SC and selected to interview for these scholarships

Will attend Explore SC and be interviewed by three individuals. In previousl years it has been a faculty member from the school, an alumnus or alumna and a scholarship recipient. (There could be a change in the procedure. It was this way in the past.)

These students have been selected among thousands who applied early.

So stinking anxious and scared.
Live in AZ and expecting (hoping) for a package tomorrow or Saturday.

To accepted studentsâŠ

In the packet you received from SC was there any mention of how many students applied?

Knowing that I might receive good news tomorrow is making me very anxious! I will either be ecstatic this weekend or terribly worried if I donât receive anything tomorrow which indicates that Iâm going to have to wait til March/April to get my acceptance/rejection decision! :eek:

My USConnect hasnât been changed. I live in Israel and I wonder if Iâll be notified by email or mail (or both).

I got an acceptance letter today! I was also notified that I was a presidential scholarship finalist.

Musicelle;
Where do you live/what are your stats.

Georgia Girl - No, there was no mention of how many students applied.

I live in a suburb in LA :)

I got a 34 on my ACT and a 2120 on my SAT
extracurricular-wise, Iâm on the school newspaper as an editor and iâm the secretary for a group that helps high school students meet medical professionals and learn more about careers in medicine, and I was published twice in my schoolâs lit mag (I think thatâs really just the main stuff)
app wise I think I did fine. For the quick answers I really just filled out what came to mind, even if they were really weird and things probably only my friends and I would understand. For the recs, I had my English teacher and my bio teacher, who I had for two years in different classes.
I didnât have an interview, because they had filled up.

I canât really think of anything else right now, haha

Hey, Does the quality of the supplement responses weigh a lot on their decisions for merit based scholarships?

Congratulations to those who have already received their admissions and invitations to interview. To recap whatâs going on (and guessing at some numbers, too, based on previous years):

Last year about 27,000 students applied before the scholarship cutoff date of Dec 1. We may assume this year is similar, perhaps a little more or less.

Last year, roughly 1000 students were invited to top scholarship interviews. These students were selected holistically and by College/major applied to, including undeclared (Dornsife). The admissions directors at each individual School at USC had a say in selecting those who would come for an interview. Because of this, oneâs ECs and LoRs were looked at in context with the major specified and were compared to others who were in the same major. Standing out in a sea of highly qualified students with similar ECs, research, internships, honors, awards, etc is very hard. Not getting an invitation is somewhat random at the highest levels, since (like admissions to ivies) there are more highly deserving applicants than spots. And for tiny Schools/majors, there may only be one Trustee slot (perhaps only 2 will be invited to interview for that slot), so keep in mind how competitive it may really be.

Of the 1000 invited to interview, believe it or not, some will decide not to come to Explore. So the total number who interview will vary each year.

As an example, about 300 will be invited to interview for the Trustee scholarship. We have seen over the years that about 200 are offered that award (while the other 100 are bumped down to Presidential, Deanâs or Directorâs Scholarships instead). Of those 200 Trustee winners, we see about 140 or so matriculate to USC as freshmen.

Completely separate from the early notifications of admission/invitations to interview for Mork/Stamps/Trustee/Presidential are the regular admissions, including NMF admits. As has been explained above, NMF does not figure into the invitations for top merit scholarships at USC but for any NMF who is admitted (and many are!) in the regular cycle, each one will get a Presidential Scholarship (1/2 tuition/4 years) without any further interview as long as they select USC their first choice school by the end of April. No need to do that now.

It can be exhilarating to be invited to interview, or disappointing to wait for that invitation (especially for highly highly qualified applicants) and have nothing in the mailbox. It can be exciting to come to USC for Explore, and a wild mix of emotions as some get bumped up, & alas, some are bumped down. The veteran USC parents/alumni who post here do so to help clear up what we can.

We really want to see everyone here get the best possible news.

Thank you USC vets, you guys are making the process easier for us.

There has been an update to USConnect. I am now able to RSVP for admit week. Good luck guys!!!

Sent from my HTCAmaze4G using CC

Where is this option? Under admissions status? Has anyone else seen this change?

where would that be on "USConnect?

Does anyone know if, historically, letters for those not being considered for scholarships are sent later than the admissions packets?

My son applied by the Dec. 1 deadline (required for SCA as well as merit scholarship consideration). I know we are supposed to hear by early February either way - just curious about the timing beyond that, since acceptances are beginning to roll out.

Congratulations to those who have already been admitted, and best of luck to everyone else!

I have the same question as Beaverdalemom.

Also, @Beaverdalemom, what program did your son apply to? I also applied to the school of cinematic arts for the film and television production program. I hope we both get in and could possibly collaborate sometime in the future. Best of luck to him!

He applied to screenwriting, with an English major as a second choice (since you can still take screenwriting classes and possibly even minor). Good luck to you too, Seabasstian! Itâs hard to wait, isnât it?
