I’m going to be attending the Explore USC overnight interview program… Just wondering, I know that students are put up in campus housing, but do the parents have to find their own accommodation? :)

yes the parents need to go enjoy or send your kids alone

Does anyone know if you can stack the National Merit scholarship and the Presidential scholarship?

No, you can’t stack NM and the Presidential scholarship. My son, a freshman at USC, attended Explore USC last spring as a Presidential invitee. He didn’t get bumped up to Trustee, but he was given the Presidential scholarship. A couple of weeks later he was notified that he was selected as a National Merit Scholar (one of the $2,500 scholars). I called USC and asked them about stacking and was told no. I also asked if he could get the $1,000/year National Merit stipend and was also told no. So it seems that it is better to get the USC National Merit Presidential award w/the $1000 year stipend than actually being a National Merit Scholar and win the separate USC Presidential scholarship.

Are you saying they bump some kids up to trustee status that were selected to interview for
The presidential scholarship? Thanks for the info.

I’m reAdy for April.

^Me too. ;)

54 days until April 1st everyone!!

So close, but yet so far!

I live up in Massachusetts and the three feet of snow coming makes me so glad I was accepted to usc!

Sent from my DROID4 using CC

Congratultions to all of the scholarship contenders! You are all very impressive.
My daughter did not receive any of these. Although she has received scholarhsip offers at other higher ranked colleges/univeristies. Not sure how they select winners. Her stats are higher than most, and she has a lot of leadership EC’s and volunteer hours. Interestingly, no one from her high school in (public high southern cal) has even been admitted to SC over the last 3 years (off naviance). Maybe something to do with her school, not sure.

@Applicant100, same here. I love watching the snow from my window, but imagine walking to class in this!

may i ask which country you are from? thks

My daughter also accepted with Presidential!!! She is so excited.

mummy1, would you mind sharing what other schools offered your D merit-based scholarships? If they were FA, your D may still be awarded good FinAid when she’s admitted at the end of March.

Hey everyone! What other schools you applied to?
Me: UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, Cal State Fullerton (only school I got in so far…), UCI, Northwestern, UChicago, Yale, Carnegie Mellon

Other schools I applied to were UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCI, UC Santa Barbara, Sac State (got in), SF State (got in), Chico State (got in), CSU Northridge, UOP (got in), and Northern Arizona University (got in). :)

I applied to NYU, Syracuse, Pepperdine, USC, Chapman (accepted), TCU (accepted), CU Boulder (accepted), UT Austin (accepted), University of Miami (accepted), University of Denver (accepted), and UNC Chapel Hill (rejected).

USC is by far my first choice so I have no clue where I’ll go if I don’t get in! Anyone else in the same boat?

^ I am! USC is my top choice too! I actually don’t know where I’ll end up since my other top choices include UCLA and UC Berkeley which are very tough schools to get into!

Congratulations to everyone who has gotten in so far! My son was not offered admission or scholarships yet at USC, but was chosen to apply/interview for the Regents scholarship at both Berkeley and UCLA. He is valedictorian of his school, 2230 SAT, 33 ACT, lots of ECs and leadership positions, so not really sure what USC is looking for. I guess we will just have to wait until the end of March to see!

My daughter’s stats are very similar to your son’s (except she has higher SAT’s). Same offers to apply for regents at UCLA and UCB(accepted at Berk) as well as UCSD offer to apply for MD/BS program, and finalist for Scripps College scholarship. We really loved SC and our tour was fantastic. But, thinking that the admissions committee may feel she is not a fit for the school for some reason. Anyway, really beilieve that it will all work out for the best.
