Hi everyone! First of all, congrats to all who received their letters today. You guys rock!
Secondly, I was wondering if it is at all possible that I may be receiving a scholarship on Monday. I live about an hour and a half south of USC on the very bottom tip of Orange County. My zip code is 92679. Given the distance I live from USC I just see it as a bit unreasonable to have a letter from there get delivered to me overnight, but I could be talking nonsense. I know two people who got letters today but they live in north long beach and la habra. Just wondering! Thank you guys.

Based on previous analysis over the years, the National Merit scholarship figure is included within the Pres, Trustee, Stamps or Mork figures above, rather than being additional scholarships in terms of total number of scholarships.
We missed the 12/1 deadline because I thought it was for the cinematic arts school and my daughter was not ready to submit application. Her stats are good but not as high as everyone’s here so not sure any scholarship would have been applicable. Does USC favor those who apply by 12/1? Does she have any chance for RD? If she is fortunate to get accepted and attend can she apply for scholarships her sophomore year (question for current/past USD students). We’re so disappointed we were not on the ball earlier. Thank you.
DD, a NMSF just received the package this morning. Computer Science and engineering. It probably was delivered to the wrong address yesterday and somebody brought it in today. We are in Southern California.
There’s a 99 percent chance USC is gonna reject me and a scholarship is probably impossible so I’m bracing myself for disappointment, but it still sucks to know that USC (along with twenty something other schools) offered a full ride to the football player who was in my freshmen math class as a senior. Like I know sports bring money blah blah blah, but it still hurts
Although I understand it hurts, I have the same doubt, but Xc is right. Football players, especially players who are recruited to a D1power 5 school, probably work harder for their repsected field (assuming they want to draft) than some intelligent students. They all work hard, but in different ways. If a student says they want to do CS and spends their high school life participating in clubs, interning, and winning awards for CS, you would say their dedication would be enough to get into some great schools. Its the same for players, too.
@pterosprite In my freshmen Latin class this kid used to cheat off my tests every single time and flirt with the teacher to get out of it and WHEN HE WAS A SOPHOMORE he was given a full ride to UCLA for soccer so yeah I feel you. Not that I don’t think that recruited athletes don’t work hard but I certainly think academics should take priority consideration over sports if you’re attending an institution meant to give you an education. I mean, academics probably shouldn’t be taken into consideration if you were applying to an elite sports program.
Colleges purpse is to prepare you for the next level
Now for many, we need that education to get to that next level
But athletes need the training and the games to get them where they need to be
Just like for art majors- they need that portfolio and audition, because thats what gets them to that next level
I’m not at all saying that athletes don’t work hard-- I just wish that someone like me (who has worked my butt off in spite of chronic health/pain issues) had the same chance as the classmate who played football, ya know? No hard feelings though.
@pterosprite I get that. There are probably athletes or artists who wish they didn’t have learning disabilities that prevented them from careers and opportunities that are open to you.
I’m really confused. I’m a NMSF & applied before Dec 1, so if I don’t hear back from USC this week, then I should assume that I’m not in the running for the half/full tuition scholarships? Can NMSF get rejected this round, or do they get rejected in late March? Anxiously waiting…
@pterosprite dont be so hard on yoursekf
if you worked as hard as you say you did, that hard work will pay off. Maybe it wont come in a full tuition offer, but you can still get accepted and attend the school of your dreams. Youve lasted this far, dont lose hope now
