@southeastkid congrats!!! out of curiosity, what major did you apply as?
@southeastkid Wow! Unless our school weights classes differently, we have roughly the same stats haha. My weighted GPA is 4.38, and my unweighted is 3.67 (rough seeing the “6” ah…). I guess I only have one more month to go to see whether I’m going to be jumping with joy or being super bummed haha
I hope everything works out for you! @ClassOf2020x.
And I applied as a Chemistry major @ruetherford
@southeastkid Thank you!
Btw, do you guys think that not applying for financial aid helps chances? I know that nearly every college says they are need blind but do you guys think that there is some underlying leg up for those people who don’t apply for FA just because the school can ensure that given that the student matriculates, they’re paying full tuition? Idk what do you guys think? I would like to think that that’s not the case, but I can’t help but wonder
You are certainly not the only one that questions the idea of need blind when we know that the few people in the admissions office sit 4 feet from the few people in financial aid, and work together 8+ hours a day, and likely eat lunch together. But this is questioned at every school, not just USC. No one with authority will answer your question, but you are not alone in wondering. But it also goes the other way, is a large number of students that get merit awards also the ones that need financial aid? That will never be answered either but people wonder.
does anyone know of anyone who got in with a GPA of around 3.55 UW with all honors and APs? I feel like my gpa is a huge weakness for me
btw my first choice major was Film and TV and second was psych.
@blourring For fall of 2015, the average GPA accepted into USC was 3.73. That is AVERAGE meaning there are numbers higher than 3.73 and below 3.73. I’ve heard stories of people with less than 3.4 being accepted. The fact that you have taken all honors/AP is a big plus on your application because it shows that challenging yourself to the highest level (something that USC highly values on its applicants).
@ClassOf2020x @southeastkid haha see that’s the big difference. My weighted GPA is 3.7ish. I bombed my sophomore year due to family circumstances (bombed as in yes, failed classes). But for junior year my GPA was a 4.6 weighted and for the first semester of senior year 4.4…fingers crossed that things work out.
Does anyone have any information on how much being a SCion helps with admission? While some people say it is unimportant the freshman profile for 2015 showed that 19% where SCions. Does anyone have any legitimate information on it?
@majesticmarmarr I heard that USC recalculates GPA too. Is that true?
@classof2020x I believe it’s only UC schools that recalculate. But I could be wrong.
Most top school s recalculate GPA for their own system to compare apples to apples
Yes, it does recalculate GPA. it’s in my notes from our visit. I believe they take out electives and add a point for honors or AP’s, but I am not entirely sure, but they do recalculate.
Only about a month left till decisions are released… the anticipation is killing me.
usc …
I applied before the scholarship deadline and got “deferred” last month. In Feb I uploaded some new awards and letter of recs. Do you guys think they will re-evaluate my application? Or maybe I should send an e-mail to my regional AO to let her know?
I feel like at this point they might have already evaluated your application as decisions come out in a month. However, theres no harm in emailing your AO to let her know. @hzy0216
Hey everyone, I have a question: are you considered for FA priority if you turned in the CSS & FAFSA by February 16, or must you turn in other additional documents on the USC portal by that date as well?
Other MAJOR question:
Turns out we can submit our midyear reports/grades on the USC portal- should we fill it out then? Mine was sent and downloaded on January 30th btw.
@stehyh If your mid year report was already sent and downloaded, then I think you’re good. If they were still in need of your report, they prob would’ve emailed you a while ago
