***USC Class of 2021 Discussion/Results Thread***

The USC blog that was posted 2 days ago said decisions will be posted on Sunday morning for those who don’t receive 2 day mail delivery. There are also admissions stats in the post. See admissionblog.usc.edu.

I am not home now, but my uncle says a box from USC arrived. I don’t want him to open it though. Is it possible that this could be a rejection/waitlist? Or is it for sure an acceptance? I am in Indiana.

Made an account to say someone from my town in NJ got in, but I havent received anything. Probably out at this point.

Although- my school usually has a few admits this year and no one has gotten anything yet. I’m about to give up hope at this point but I’m still holding out.

This is a very odd process. Is it intentional torture by USC to post updates on the portal at 3am (east coast)?
Couldn’t the same thing be accomplished by posting it on Sunday at 12 noon for example?
And seriously, if one is in a 2 day USPS zone and did not receive the magic white or yellow box today what are the chances that they got accepted? Very low to no I would say.

Anyone from Texas get mail?

@ZBlue17 If it is a box then it is 99% an acceptance, so congratulations!

Accepted!! San Francisco…Global Economy and International Relations major with Pre-law!! Package came around noon

@nogddg Congratulations to your son! I am also in south FL in the Sarasota region, and I was wondering if you are near more of a city hub or not? Because I am in a suburb and did not get anything but I was wondering if this is a sign of rejection or just a sign that my post office is slow (which is has been in the past)?

ZBlue17- If it is an 8 1/2 x 11 box, about an inch thick, should be acceptance. That’s what my daughter received and I don’t think they’re sending these boxes with a rejection. A rejection would likely be a letter.

Accepted! I live 20 mins west of Boston for those wondering! Good luck!!

@CADREAMIN congrats again.

I wish there was that sort of “balance” that you described in our world as well, but such was not the case. It was all too USC-centric.

While we still cling to that small glimmer of hope that maybe it is an USPS processing error or delay, the cruel reality is more likely that she was rejected… and more surprisingly - by both SCA and USC overall. Clearly, anyone can face an SCA rejection. Their 4-6% admit rates are insanely competitive, & the creative review process is by its very nature highly subjective.

But a rejection by USC overall would of course be surprising to us, as her stats and overall application (at least IMO) were stronger than her sister’s - who is at USC now. But who knows… maybe they figured that if they are rejecting her from SCA, they might as well reject her overall - as she will likely go elsewhere.

She does have 6 other admits already, including Rice, Emory, UTexas, and has 6 more decisions pending, but she would gladly forfeit all 6 and any to come for a ticket to USC. And ironically, a projected 66% of those being admitted to USC this week will now in turn ultimately reject USC and enroll elsewhere. It is too bad that we cannot simply set-up a barter system among applicants.

Oh well… if the portal update tonight confirms what we now suspect has happened, she will likely move on much more easily than I. It will not undo or diminish all of the positive things that I have said about USC on CC to date, but it will be a hard dose of reality to accept. Who knows… maybe they judge siblings harder (but your 3 acceptances at least in the family does not suggest that) or were simply more swayed by the impact that other applicants could bring in theory to USC. They also had different regional admission reps, so maybe they each see applicants differently. None of us will ever truly know the reasons that rejections are handed down.

But there is no escaping the disappointment. I doubt that anyone applied sooner (Aug 2nd) or demonstrated a greater desire to be there at USC, but such is the reality of this ultra-competitive landscape. While 5500-6000 will not reject USC, she clearly would have committed and enrolled there.

Good luck to those still waiting on the mail or portal updates… and congrats to those already admitted.
