Seeing everyone talk about only people with lower stats getting in, I do want to post just as an opposite take that I did get a 2350+ SAT and was accepted (Asian, as well). But at the same time, friends with similar stats have been rejected, which certainly made me very confused.
@WWWard I understand why it is hard to know that a lot of the admitted students won’t attend, but this isn’t a fault of USC, they know the numbers very well. All colleges admit more than their class size knowing that a certain portion will not end up going. If USC were to try to only accept applicants they believe will attend they would accept much fewer students. So it would actually end up with a much much lower acceptance rate.
I too would speculate that the main thing I had going for me were my stats (4.0/2340), and I was accepted. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I applied to Viterbi, but I certainly don’t think that USC does not take into account stats.
Good luck to everyone!
Although my scores aren’t that high, my ECs are great! Hoping they look at the app super-holistically
If I get in, I’m enrolling within 5 minutes :)>-

@lallala And I would personally prefer that. Most of the schools ranked in the top 20 have yield rates of 50% or better. The top ten in the 60%s or 70%s. Even schools that I have never heard of have yield rates better than USC’s. USC is ranked like 150 in yield rate. 1) they should have an EA or ED offering and 2) truly seek out those who most want to be there. It will not at all alter the caliber of applicant or those that enroll, but it will certainly benefit those most committed. If I were there as a student, I would rather be surrounded by those of like mind who ranked USC first or second and not someone who ranked it 8th but chose it due to the FA offering or some other factor.
As for test scores, back in the dark ages - when I was in high school, we had a student in my graduating class with a 1600/1600 who no one had ever heard of… because he was a C student in regular (non-honors) classes. In the end, he failed to graduate and never even went to college. Today, many colleges would be throwing scholarships at him for that test score alone. Four years of classwork / 8 hours per day & the grades derived from that effort > one three-hour test. At least IMO.
My mail came at 3, I am in Somerset County so its central… but it seems odd to be that Idk of anyone getting accepted when last year like 5 kids were at my school… who knows at this point tho
@wwward I’m so sorry, I was really rooting for your daughter as I know many others were on this thread
Someone in Bergen County got theirs and also someone in Rockland (right above bergen co in NY state). I havent though, fingers crossed theyre holding it
is it supposed to be out online right now?
D, who has been accepted at U Chicago (EA) and MIT (RD) was offered her second choice of major for Spring 2018 @USC. Again we all need to find the school who loves us back and live happily ever after
I haven’t got anything in the mailbox today whether it’s a rejection letter, though
I’m from Bridgewater New Jersey and I got my package for USC this morning
@SomedayIwill I haven’t got anything in the mailbox today whether it’s a rejection letter, though
@runzwitsiccors No. 12AM PDT. So about 3 hours from now.
Thanks, @filmstudent2
We appreciate it. We of course will not know for sure for another 3 hours or so… but it is hard to hinge your only hopes on governmental inefficiency (i.e. the postal service) lol. She does have sold options to choose among, but only one option truly inspired her… and that light is fading away quickly in the distance now.
Hopefully you end up enrolling there and doing great! SCA is an amazing place and inspiring opportunity for you and for all those gaining admission this week.
No @runzwitsiccors official acceptances are posted online at 12AM PST
Does anyone happen to know when Vandy announces?
I AM SO NERVOUS MY FEEBLE HEART CANT TAKE THIS!!! USC has been my dream school for the past 4 years but i don’t think my stats are good enough, I hope they look into ECs a lot because that’s where i shine
Hi, my son got rejected from USC but got offered the TTP. He was planning on asking for a deferral to start school Fall 2018 and going to travel for a year. Does anyone know how this would work? Thanks for your help
@WWWard im still hoping that she gets in, but if she doesn’t she will use her talents and do amazing things wherever she goes. I agree with your thoughts, it just feels unfair.
P.s. wasnt her prom tonight? I hope she is having a great time
