USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

Cool! Good luck. What area of MD are you from?

@CADREAMIN I think they already are torture experts by merely playing this guessing game.

@CADREAMIN if the boxes were to be sent tomorrow, then will the portal be updated on Friday night or Saturday night?

@Itiznotfare so you got a scholarship ?

Southern California here. no white box. I called USC admissions and they just said portal updates and packages will be received by February 1st but they didnā€™t mention anything about the dateā€¦

Do you think weā€™ll see that a package from LA is on its way on the USPS informed delivery service? This anxiety is killing me.

From PA, hoping for a scholarship as well. Seems like theyā€™ll be shipped tomorrow if no one from California got one today, so hoping for one on Friday!

@compSciLover he got the Jeff Bezos Trustee scholarship

I have been watching this thread for a while even though my son (whose first choice is USC) will not be auditioning for Thornton until Feb 1. Good luck to everyone who is hoping for a white box this week!

IF they start arriving tomorrow, portal will update Friday night after midnight, so Saturday morning.

Hard to imagine they wouldnā€™t have shipped today. They donā€™t like to ship later in week because then they run into Sunday delivery issues since some do/donā€™t have mail service on Sundays. But having said that, last yearā€™s reg decision were sent on Thursday with first arrivals on Friday, so who the heck knows.

Through last years admissions, packages have not been seen on USPS Informed Delivery. The exception is someone like a Thornton admit that auditioned, but it came at a different time and sent separate from the main group which is sent by admissions. USC sends in bulk and does not enable tracking (and the sender has to enable it for packages to show). Sometimes people post they see it there just to mess with others. Itā€™s the internet afterall.

@compSciLover I got a t-shirt! :slight_smile:

@CADREAMIN when the school evaluate student, do they only evaluate based on studentsā€™ qualification, like grade, SAT/ACT, activities, leadership etc. Do they also consider race, gender, legacy etc?

@Apple349
Race - Not sure, but Iā€™d put money that AA plays a little bit of a part.
Legacy - Yes, Best if your biological parents went there.
Gender - Doubtful.

@Burrowsc thanks for your answer.

Will SDA applicants (BA, no live audition) be part of this merit pool or will we need to wait until all auditions (BFA) are complete? Thank you and good vibes to all!

Demographics definitely play a part including the ones you mentioned plus ethnicity, URM, first gen, geography - within US and International, legacy - SCion and more. You donā€™t get to a nearly 50/50 gender balance randomly, without considering gender. The stats are just a part, particularly at a very holistic USC. The are building a class, think of it as a giant puzzle and the applicants represent all the pieces they need to fill out the class they want for each school within USC and overall at USC. Hopefully you are the piece that fits. You donā€™t get to a 50/50 gender balance without considering gender.

@CADREAMIN I can understand if the school consider demographics when they do regular acceptance. But we are talking about Merit Scholarship here, should they consider more on the merit side?

So if they are sent out tomorrow, would we be expecting to get the packages tomorrow or the next day? I am in southern California about an hour from USC.

They start arriving day after sent in Socal. The hope is they went out today.

@apple349 oh sorry, didnā€™t catch that. There are always rumors that they give a lot of the merit to students that they would give aid to anyway and certain demographics, but donā€™t know if there is any validity to that or how one could ever know that unless inside.
