USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

Delivery window for San Diego looks likely to be Saturday @jstuart1

@SCMHAALUM :slight_smile: you’re welcome

I have been missing the “my font changed on my portal, what does this mean?” type posts so far
guess all is quiet in Portalville.

^^^ thank goodness
 do not need another “chug-fest” lol

Is it true that if you are denied, you get a headline on the decision update email as “Denied freshman”? What would the headline say on the email if you are admitted?

USC just hired its 12th President, Carol L. Folt. She was the chancellor of UNC before coming to USC.

@medstu1324 No headline. Those denied have a pdf under admission decision to open that is letter stating you are great but denied.

Judging by the picture in the SDA email that we got, its looking like they are sending out yellow envelopes instead of white boxes this year???

QUESTION I THINK IM GETTING REJECTED
 I emailed my admin counselor a week ago about when we would get our decisions
they just got back to me and said that “when decisions are made you will receive an email to check your portal, it shouldn’t be no later than April 1st”
The dates just come out so I’m freaking out. Do you guys think I’m getting rejected?

My stats WEREN’T perfect espically my sat score :slight_smile:

@Radm02 Reading way too much into that. I mentioned earlier if you call admissions 3 times you will get 3 different answers. They say whatever they want to move on. Means nothing. Imagine if everyone emails them just once, that is almost 70,000 emails to answer by a handful of people. Admissions isn’t a giant call center, it’s not that many people. Add on that the travel they are doing constantly promoting.

April 1st is the generic date, so that is a very generic answer.

Yellow has been used to indicate spring last few years.

Before that decisions were sent in bright yellow/gold 9x11 envelopes rather than white boxes, with same red folder on inside - they were super pretty. When you opened the mailbox there was no missing that yellow color.

Do both fall and spring admits make up the ~6,300 that will be admitted?

Hello fellow USC applicants - I just want to wish luck to you all as I’ll be over here in NJ dying waiting on Saturday for my decision. Thanks to everyone in this thread for helping me stay updated and relieving my overthinking/stress these past few months. You all seem like such wonderful people with ambitious goals; just remember that no matter what happens, you have to trust that you’ll end up exactly where you belong. We have so many incredible years of opportunity ahead of us.

if i live in the beach cities of los angeles (manhattan, hermosa, redondo beach) when can i expect my package?

Hello all, just wanted to answer some questions for those of you asking. I was admitted in January to USC, since I’m a finalist for the Presidential scholarship. Here are the answers to some questions people have asked:

  1. When I received the email of my acceptance, it only said that there was an update to my USC student portal status, no headline indicating anything.
  2. The acceptance package arrived AFTER the email (for me at least).
  3. The acceptance package came in a thick white box, not an envelope. It was about 1.5 inches thick, and as long/wide as a school textbook.
    Good luck to all those waiting! You’ll all end up where you’re meant to!! :heart:

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but are rejections mailed out today too?

I live in South Florida, do you think I would be getting the package before Saturday at 8 pm EST (5 pm PST) or find out via the portal? Also, is there a way to see on USPS if it’s a box or letter?

I just want to thank @CADREAMIN and @WWWard for keeping us sane during this wait.

@ct7101 In previous years they have been mailed later than the packages and have been received after portals have updated.

@secondcup you’re welcome

@westcoastjunior yes

@123california either later today or tomorrow.

@ct7101 yes
 possibly sent as early as today as well or maybe later (USC controls that & hasn’t said)
 but rejections are also sent via regular mail - so slower. In the past, it has seemed like they were maybe sent a day later based on when they arrived.

@lrg1122 most of FL is two-day delivery, so yes. But in 2017, our package to FL took 4 days, and my daughter found out via the portal update first instead. As for informed delivery
 read below within this post.

As a Recap for the applicants waiting:

USC has announced that nearly 67K applied this cycle and that the admit rate will be circa 11%. That equates to around 7,370 being admitted overall. Since 1,000 or so were admitted in January during the scholarship phase, another 6,370 or so will be admitted this week. That # includes both fall and spring admits.

The mail-out of admissions packages, sent via USPS Priority Mail, has been confirmed by USC as occurring TODAY, March 21st, with portal updates for all applicants on March 23rd at 5pm Pacific.

You can project your likely delivery window via the following link
 https://www.usps.com/priority-mail/map/ Simply use 90007 as the originating zip code. Be forewarned however that USPS is far from 100% reliable, and they do too often miss those delivery windows. The portal updates on the 23rd will be the definitive answer.

Rejection letters arrive via regular mail later
 usually received after the portals update - unless you live close enough to USC.

While you can of course try Informed Delivery via USPS, as it has worked for some, USC does not enable tracking and historically very few of those actually getting the admission packets were able to gain that same-day advanced notice. The vast majority who have had Informed Delivery, including my own family, were not able to see this particular type of package en route. But there is always a chance.

Best of luck to all those waiting for good news beginning with the packages roll-out TODAY
