Thank you❤️
Sometimes money is first come first served, so good to be clear to receive it.
Any indicators this year?
Yes, but I think my son added himself to their mailing list back in August. He has three emails from the office of the dean since August.
There was only once a mailing was an indicator - it as from SCA - and it mean someone was accepted. @WWWard knows this one. Went on 2-3 years maybe??..then they stopped.
I would put zero weight on mailers. They are typically doing decisions up to minute they are posted - the timing on mailers generally doesn’t work. The Business Lecture mailer appears to be general/typical mailer.
That proven valid hint was actually SDA, School of Dramatic Arts. As stated, it lasted for a few years. They were in essence inviting SDA admits to a special event, and the timing was such that they wanted people to have time to arrange travel. It was occurring within a week or two of the March announcement date.
I am curious to see if the current Marshall invite to a special event is similar or not. But as you stated, we will need to see if anyone posts about getting that invite without a corresponding admit announcement thereafter.
Yes, my son got it. He added himself on the dean’s mailing list, so I’m thinking this is why??? He got two emails in August and then the Business Lecture Series one you’re talking about. My daughter is in Marshall as a sophomore. The only time I’ve ever received email from the dean was when my daughter was accepted back in 2021. It was all specific to her acceptance. Weird, but hopeful!
Is it possible to change majors at USC from one school to another school?
my fin aid portal shows a Identity Documentation and Statement of Educational Purpose, which isnt done so i think im not eligible for fin aid yet. this doc also requires a notary signature? does this m ean i have to go search for a notary just for usc fin aid submission? will this affect my actual decision in any way, because i may just drop out of fin aid since I don’t think i quality for any to begin with based on my EFC, and finding a notary just for 0$ seems like a hassle
Yes. Many do so. Many double major or have 1-2 minors. They are very flexible. But, the School housing that major or minor may have to approve the change too.
It will have no bearing on admission. But, if they request something, they will likely not finalize an FA offering (assuming admission) without you eventually supplying it to them.
So easy! My daughter changed majors 5 times before finding the perfect one. Some have gpa/pre-regs like engineering and Marshall. Marshall can be competitive but most Dornsife are just a form to complete.
Do you mind sharing the transition of majors? I think the final one was Music Industry, if I recall correctly. But admitted as? And then which three majors before finalizing? Either way, it is very impressive that an university allows for that much internal reflection and intellectual curiosity for its students. Clearly such would not be possible at most public universities. And that really is the point of college… self exploration and discovery. And it often takes time to find the right path…
approximately how many trustee/presidential scholars are handed out each year? excluding nmsf presidential
I would caution sending anything more to USC if deferred then what they are asking for in the deferral.
The email they sent out the other day specifically advised against sending updates, essays, resumes, and lors. And specifically said no Letters of Continued Interest. Just to fill out the form in the portal and send in mid year grades.
In situations like these, sometimes not doing what they ask can be a negative. Following their directions at this point would most likely serve the deferred student best.
And the enrolled #s for class of 2025 were:
USC Trustee Scholars (full tuition) 98
USC Presidential Scholars (half tuition) 384
USC Dean’s Scholars (quarter tuition) 139
Recipients of other USC merit scholarships 6
I believe that 1000 or so were offered admission with the possibility of such merit scholarships last year. Clearly, more were offered the big ones other than those that actually enrolled. But, I do not know the exact # offered. Maybe someone else does
Any results?
I certainly also advise not overwhelming them or sending any extra supplements. My two daughters only did as I suggested previously. Their emails were short and to the point. Just a couple sentences as I recall. They sent just one such email in mid-February. It worked out for them. There is a bit of human nature at play with AOs too, and some may be more yield conscious than others. Any statement from an applicant confirming that USC is their top choice and/or also committing to attending if admitted is only going to be of extra value if well received by that AO and if also received from a candidate under serious consideration already for admission. My daughters felt comfortable doing so. And anecdotally, I have also received many PMs from those who did the same thing over the last few years with a successful outcome. But, clearly, those who tried such but still failed would likely not let me know that. So, every applicant needs to decide for themselves.
If USC is specifically asking that we do not send LOCIs, then I would not.
