USC conditions for admissions--in big trouble

I got accepted to USC with the condition of getting a B(3.0) in my writing class. I got a C+, and I don't think I can appeal the grade :(.
I'm going to talk to my admissions counselor but do you guys think that I will get rescinded?
Has anyone gotten rescinded with a situation like mine?
I have A's for all other classes I took, and my GPA is a 3.51...

The teacher was very biased, and I hated the class. He took 30% off my final essay grade because I did not properly do MLA internal citations :(.

was it specifically stating that you needed a B in that one class? or overall 3.0?

B(3.0) in my prereq writing course that satisfies the lower division writing requirement. Not a 3.0 overall :(.

that’s a tough one. Especially because its prereq. On a good note. I found the admissions counselors to be very understanding. So speak to your counselor asap, explain your situation. Good luck

Can you take another writing class this summer to satisfy the requirement?

Have you tried writing an appeal to your teacher, explaining your situation and how much it matters to you (but focus on how well you thought you did in the class and how you deserved a B)?

If that doesn’t work, explain your situation to USC and come up with a good reason for why you failed the class (the important thing is that you explain that it was an isolated incident). I had a friend who applied to Harvard as an undergraduate, and got a C in one of his English exams. He explained it successfully, and Harvard was willing to overlook it. So if you have a good reason for why you got a weak grade in this class, then you’re in good shape.

Oh, that is good advise. I’d do that.

well a C+ isn’t failing, and although i know its a writing class requirement, i’d definitely explain to USC that all your other grades are good and that you are currently trying to appeal it, but if it doesn’t get appealed, will that affect your admission? i’m sure USC is more understanding than you think…if you got like…a C instead then i’d say retake it, but a C+ is on the border…i’d appeal it :)

Call your admissions counselor tomorrow morning and tell him/her what’s going on. Be polite and beg! haha.

USC takes notice of +/- on grades so you have a chance, depending on your admissions counselor.
Try to get it appealed though first, you have a legit reason.

As noted, USC does look at +/-, however, a C+ is still not QUITE borderline…but yeah, definitely email the admissions counselors and your prof.

Thanks for the suggestions guys
Zirc I did get an appeal from the teacher, and he gave me a B- instead of a C+ but it’s still not a B.
My GPA bumped up to a 3.65 but I’m still worried.

Hopefully USC does not reject me because I received a B- instead of a B :frowning:
I wish I got the 3.5 thing rather than the B(3.0) for eng…

you should be fine now though :)

I really would be unfair for them to kick you with that; they have a lot of people from institutions that don’t put +/- on things. So you could have done better than someone else with the same requirements and still get rejected because your school actually puts on the -? That seems absurd.

If worst comes to worst, beg.
