Thank you! I just read on USC’s Dornsife website that the amount of trustee and presidential awards varies. But generally, it’s a couple hundred right? Scary to think how many applicants there are however… Guess all we can do is wait

For the incoming class of 2011, a total of 509 prestigious scholarships including the Mork (full tuition + $5,000), Trustee (full tuition) and Presidential (1/2 tuition) scholarships were awarded. When you add in the 107 1/4 tuition Dean’s scholarships, the total rises to 616. In addition, there are hundreds of smaller University scholarships and departmental scholarships awarded to applicants who met the December 1st scholarship deadline.

These numbers reflect the number of scholarship awardees who accepted the scholarship/admission offer. Applicants offered these scholarships are among the most accomplished in the nation and have many wonderful opportunities from which to choose, so approximately twice as many scholarships are offered as are accepted. That means approximately 1,200 of the ~8,000 admitted applicants were offered 1/4 tuition or more.

Hopefully there numbers look a bit more encouraging (as long as we don’t focus on the 40,000+ expected applications this year! )

Do we know how many kids applied for those 616 merit spots?

Last year, GeorgiaGirl provided a link showing that over 20,000 of the 37,000+ Fall 2011 applicants applied by the December 1st scholarship deadline. With the move to The Common Application this year, my personal estimate is that there will be approximately 30,000 applicants who applied by the December 1st scholarship deadline for Fall 2012 admission.

Random question: I’m certain I submitted my application on Dec. 1st, but looking back on my Common App profile it says that I submitted it Dec. 2nd and that it was downloaded Dec. 3rd. What gives? Will this disqualify me for a scholarship?

Don’t worry about the “download” date - that is when USC accesses it and has nothing to do with the deadline.

As for the “submitted” date - check the time stamp. USC uses Pacific time, but The Common Application records everything as of Eastern time. If it is before 3am EST on December 2nd, then you have an on-time application.
