Usc Drama

Anyone want to share there audition experience also, did everyone get a handwritten thank you note for taking the time to audition with us?

My S received thank u note from Lori (Admissions officer) who conducted interview but not from the auditiors (there were two auditors). Prior to his audition auditiors announced that they will ask all students to do only one monologue instead of two. My S ended up doing 2 but he was not asked for any adjustments nor any questions/comments. Audition was very quick, maybe 5 min. max.

Same here, it seemed that everyone in my D’s group had the same experience.

I only did one monologue. I think they kind of wrote me off because I was applying as a transfer. I’m not expecting acceptance into the BFA because they were trying to hard-sell transfers on the BA program. Lori said she personally wouldn’t condone me going into the BFA program as a freshman either. So overall, I kind of left disappointed that they didn’t even give me a chance really.

As a follow up, I did just receive a handwritten note from Lori today.

I received a handwritten note from Phyllis Lemon a while ago, about a week after my BFA acting audition in SF. I’m actually starting to think I’d rather be in the BA program though…hmm. Well, we’ll see. Any idea when notifications will go out for USC?

My S did not get a handwritten note, but he did just receive an invitation to the USC Theater Open House in April. Very excited this might be a hint. Anyone else?

I think the notes from Lori and Phyllis are a courtesy to all auditionees. I had 12 students audition this year and I think all received them.

Here are 3 different audition experiences over the past 3 years and all 3 were acceptances:

3 years ago my daughter was asked to do her her second piece and was given adjustments on that piece.
2 years ago my student was given adjustments on her piece but was not asked for her second piece.
Last year my son was not given adjustments or asked to do his second piece.

So try not to read anything into it :)

I am quite sure the BFA class has been decided and has been turned over to admissions. It appears USC admissions is handling things differently this year. In the past they have sent out decisions in waves but to date - as per the CC USC page - no one (for any of the majors) has received an acceptance except for the Trustee and other top scholarship recipients. The rumor on the USC - CC page is they may be waiting until around March 20th to send out acceptances - again this is just heresay and I will keep you all posted if/when I hear anything else.

I was also told there was a huge increase in students audtioning this year - There were around 550 last year and 800 this year - Yikes!

Good luck to you all!

Madbean – I think my son received the same thing. Not that I would know of course, since I haven’t opened his mail (but it’s amazing what you can read with a flashlight!).

Very excited.

niftydesign!!! I confess!! I held the envelope up to a sunny window. (thin envelope, thankfully!) Hope this is good news. :)

madbean and nifty: where do you live?
and are both of your children design folks or acting bfa or ba?

Live in SoCal–invitation was postmarked 3/10/11. S is scenic design BFA. The open house is April 9th all day, with Faculty workshops, FinAid workshops, Lunch w/students & Faculty, a matinee performance of “On the Town” and a cast & crew post-performance reception hosted by SoT parents.

Alas, no invitation for parents of applicant. Sounds so hopeful!!

2 of my students recieved the same invite today in NorCal - My daughter received such an invitation 3 years ago -

However, my student 2 years ago and my son last year did not (and both were accepted) - Also the majority of the kids there were BA’s - which makes sense given the ratio - I think Lori said they were looking at 70 BA’s and 18 BFA acting… not sure about the number for design :)

I haven’t seen the invite - but I would think parents are included… The SOT is very inclusive with the Parents. We sat in on the classes (and actually participated in the exercises) and saw the show - I don’t know perhaps we paid for our tickets - I truly don’t remember - but I do know all four of us went…

Thanks for the information, actingmom. Are either of your kids in the upcoming musical?

S did RSVP and, just as you said, there was room to take 2 parents along.  So were are reserved. Anyone else here on CC (nifty?) going to attend?

Extra side note: this USC theater event is on the same day as the UCLA admitted student open house. S was very fortunate to be admitted to the UCLA theater BA–but guess which event he is going to attend? :)

I auditioned this year for the BFA program, I did my contemporary monologue and then they worked that piece. We then chatted for a bit and they wished me luck on my Trustee interview and then I was done. I don’t know when the letters will be sent out, but I was accepted to the program and was told that in my Trustee interview two weeks later. I have not received a letter, but I’d imagine that they’ll be out soon.

For those of you who did not receive letters for the April open house you can go on line and register up to three people.

I know, I saw that online. It, thus, is not an admitted students event. Weirdly enough, I received the same invitation everyone else on here but in January. Strange stuff.

Same here.
