Did you recently get a hand-written letter saying "thank you for taking the time to audition"? It seems a little odd to be getting this now since I auditioned on February 11th. Hopefully this isn't an early rejection sign..

Hi Geofio - those thank you notes are just a courtesy for the School of Theatre - they neither mean you are in or out - in years past they have arrived a little earlier - so I know this year it does seem a little confusing! I am a coach and had a lot of kids audition for USC this year - they all received the thank you’s yesterday. Also, both of my own kids are in the BFA acting program and they both received them in their respective years. My kids love the program and love the school. Please feel free to ask me any questions you might have about it! Going by last year’s calendar, letters will go out this week. Best of luck to your daughter!

Actingmom: Thank you so much! I was wondering if you could explain the extent of voice and dance training BFA Acting majors (& BA if you know) receive? I want to pursue musical theater, but am worried since it is a BFA in Acting. At the auditions they said their acting students are well rounded & BA’s can easily fill their electives with voice, theater & dance to make their own BFA. How much of this is true?

Hi Geofio - BFA’s have Voice and Movement for 4 years. These are not singing and dance classes. The BFA is quite structured in the progression of classes and is definitely an acting program. BA’s have the option of minoring in MT - that is an audition-based minor for which you audition at the end of freshman year I believe. The MT minor is through Thorton School of Music. As Lori said in her info session you may move from the BFA program to the BA - moving from the BA to the BFA is much more difficult, although it does happen - 2 kids in my daughter’s class were BA and re-auditioned for the BFA and were admitted.

One of the largest productions of the season is the musical. This year they are doing City of Angels - if you are admitted to either program you will be invited to the Admitted Student Day and be able to see the show. There are massively talented musical theatre students in both the BFA and the BA.

I was also at the auditions on Feb 11th at the Biltmore! Let me know if you have anymore questions - I can put you in touch with some students too if you like! Very, very best of luck to you!

Actingmom: thank you so much for all of your detailed information! From what I’ve heard & researched, both programs sound fantastic! I’ll let you know if I have any other questions!

I never received any kind of letter… I’m an international student (well, I’m a US citizen but I live overseas) and had to send a DVD audition… Do you think this could be a reason why I didn’t receive any letter, since I didn’t audition in person?

JME1992: My guess is that either you won’t get one due to your DVD audition like you said, or the letter simply hasn’t gotten to you yet. It was just a simple thank you, no indication of in or out, so I wouldn’t stress it if you don’t get one! Good luck! Hopefully we get some good news this week!

I hope that it’s not a big deal… but to be honest I’m not confidently looking forward towards the rest of the week…Good luck to you too!
