USC Fall 08 transfers

ksbr27: I applied to SPPD first choice. I have yet to encounter anyone else on this board who have declared it their first choice.

Also, regarding Transfer Majors:

I applied First-Choice Econ and Second-Choice Classics (Latin, Greek, etc.)

I know my first choice is somewhat to rather common, though I think most transfers going in that direction are leading more towards Marshall. However, my second choice is pretty substantially esoteric and somewhat of a rarity. In fact, at BU the other day I learned that they actually give a full scholarship for the incoming freshman that scores the highest on their Classics test.

So, my question is how common do you think it is that they accept you into your second-choice major if you don't make your first? I know that they supposedly have quotas for each major and for each school.

in my case it would probably be rather easy to get accepted into the second...

i have no idea burtonboarder, because i am kind of wondering the same thing since i'm having a shift in thought regarding my first/second choice majors. since i had to apply to a professional school (theatre for BA track) for my second choice, i'm hoping i somehow find out about that spot BEFORE i find out if i got into CLAS so i can make a decision. forgive this stupid question, but is econ in marshall or is it in CLAS? because with classics, it really is rare for a freshman, and probably even more rare for a transfer, so i would think they would want to grab you if you have the grades and the passion for it. on my application i expressed a passion for both the BA french and the BA theatre programs so i'm hoping they will both be like...hey let's let her in, she obviously has the passion for both? but that's just me. i think if you express a passion for both and you have the grades, they would look at you for both.

Econ is in CLAS

thanks laguna for clarifying!

in that case burtonboarder, CLAS may decide to take you for either major while keeping you in the school. i hope that a-made sense, and b-helps.

so i sent in the corrections regarding my second major. thanks for the input everyone =)

Does anyone know when they start looking at Marshall applications?

I'm sure they are going to as soon as they get everything sorted out. I mean the Marshall supplement was due just three weeks ago. Considering how many people applied, I don't know.

i applied to marshal as my first choice, and economics as my second.
someone probably answered this already, or not - so im asking again...
if i dont get into marshal as my first choice, am i still eligible to get into economics??

For whoever it was asking about the StARS report, I did a search and found it. Login here: https://camel2.usc.edu/oasis/Login.aspx and click StARS report.

I don't know what the trick is to finding out if you're admitted, but I'm assuming if it has anything on your report, you're in... because mine says "Sorry your StARS record is not available!" haha

how do you guys log onto oasis?.. like i can only log onto the site which i can check fin aid and available documents..cant get into the section with STARS report

do you have to register for the stars report? im not sure which id and password you're supposed to use for it

yeah, econ is in clas...something like business economics would be marshall

ksbr27-

thanks for your insight. i certainly hope they emphasize my second-choice major because i do think that that alone, with even just adequate grades (~3.5 GPA) could get me in...since the primary concern with transfers and supposedly freshmen seems to be how many students are in which programs

I applied to two different major choices in CLAS, Psych then Soc. Would it increase my chances if I changes my second choice say to SPPD? I have a lot of leadership experience, which is what SPPD says they are looking for on their website.

forgive my nescience, but what exactly is sppd again?

burtonboarder-i also have around a 3.5 (3.45 with this semester bringing me to either a 3.51 or a 3.6) and with the whole "quota" business (which, as i am witnessing with many of my friends who are applying as freshman) it can work for us. although the UCs generally don't admit on alt. majors, i have heard of people at USC getting admitted on their second-choice.

Levanthall and Marshall are two seperate colleges right? or is Levanthall school of accounting under Marshall?

Different schools but they do work closely together

SPPD is the School of Policy, Planning, and Development. They have one undergraduate major.
