Decided that I’ll stay on-campus. Any housing recommendations?

Looking at the rates for off campus apartments near USC…anyone else think they’re pretty high? Any ideas where I could potentially find a cheaper place?

CENTURY. It’s across the street from campus and very close to the rec center and cafe 84 (which has unlimited meal swipes w meal plan) but that’s me

Noted Century. Any auxiliaries/second/third best choices?

I think I just applied for USC housing…put Sierra, Century, and Vista as my top choices. I haven’t been assigned a roommate yet but do I just now wait to see if I’m placed in housing? How long is the wait usually? I decided really late to apply and I’m not 100% I’ll stick with it or that I’ll get a decent house. I just want a parking space for my car!

It took like two days for me @Spiffyb0i. Is anyone gonna go out for a club sport? I’m thinking about playing rugby

Anyone looking for a roommate on-campus? (I’m a female)

Yay! Officially got switched to Broadcast and Digital Journalism! Now the hunt for housing…

@scahopeful Stuho is a faceless, heartless, uncaring corporation that will extract your last penny without a second thought - in other words, a typical college-area landlord. On the other hand, they have some of the cheapest options in the USC area, so even if you don’t get your deposit back (and you WONT get your deposit back…) you might keep a few bucks in your pocket compared to USC housing or the nicer non-USC options.

*One of the keys to remember about any housing option that does not rent per-bed is that they WILL come after the other lessees for rent if one of your roommates does not pay. Per-bed is safer in that regard, but tends to only be available in the higher-priced options or USC housing.

*To all considering 12 month leases - ALL of the non-USC housing options will tell you that you can sublet during the summer and they might even offer to help you do so. Summer housing in the USC area is in HUGE excess! If you are able to sublet (and you will have to start trying to find someone NOW, because there will be far more housing available than students who need it) you will likely have to offer a significantly reduced rate. The 12-month leases can still be a good deal, especially of you squeeze in an extra roommate to lower the per-roommate cost, but assume that you will indeed be paying all 12 months.

so would you suggest usc housing or non usc housing? if i wanted to keep costs as low as possible?

@romab93 I’m a girl looking for a roommate at USC! Message me because idk how to message someone on here haha

@Trojfan131 That’s great! I was wondering what your process in doing so was? I was accepted as my first choice major Econ but now want to transfer into my second choice major Kinesology. Any insight would be really appreciated :)

@trojfan131 Do you mind sharing how you were able to switch to broadcast journalism? like what was the process. i have been trying to change majors but I can’'t seem to find the right help. thanks :)

Absolutely! Well, I called Annenberg up and told them I got accepted as Undecided but had a deep passion for Broadcast Journalism. Then, they told me that I would have to send them an email containing a paragraph explaining why I wanted to transfer into that major and why I would be a fit for that degree. Finally, after 6 days, they gave me the decision.

So @fightingtitan and @trojan4lyfe, I would call up the specific department that you want to transfer into and explain the situation, but I would imagine that the process for switching into those majors would be the same. Good luck!

Ok thanks Ill call Marshall and see what they say thanks so much for the advice!!! and congrats on the major change!

@Trojfan131 Thanks for the help, I will definitely be doing that tomorrow :)

Also I’m curious as to whether you’re entering as a sophomore or junior? Do you think this influence their decision?

@fightingtitan I will be entering as a sophomore. The only way that I could imagine it influencing their decision is by how many classes you will have that go towards your goal major. So, if they have pre-reqs for that major and you have them completed, I would only imagine that would have a positive effect on them. But if you only have the gen-ed requirements and such completed, I just think that if you explain why you wanted to change majors and let your passion flow in that paragraph, they would be more than willing to let you do so.

What will you be entering as? And do you know if there are any pre-reqs for Kinseology?

Did anyone receive the transfer merit scholarship? I fit all the criteria and there wasn’t a thing in my letter about it.

@scahopeful

They have already been given out. If you received it would show up in the messages section under the Status Check area on USConnect. I was told by my Admissions counselor that very few were given out. You can call to see if you received one as well. Unfortunately, I did not get one.

wow…i’m absolutely crushed.
my parents are unskilled laborers who make a little less than $60k a year together & i only got a gift aid of $30k with remaining costs over $34k…
i guess i have to appeal and hope for the best, otherwise it’s Cal Poly for me.
