USC or GT Engineering...desperate

Hey so it is 4/24 and I have 7 more days until the deadline....omg. My parents and I are making the decision tonight and I need your help. I ultimately want to go to Africa and deal with agricultural engineering or something to scientifically increase food production, etc. Should I then major in environmental or chem engineering (how are these in both schools?)

•I would have to pay (if we don't take any of their loan offers) $8,000 for GT and for USC I would pay $16500 (denying any loan offers).

•Aside from that, GT undergrad. Engineering is overall 5th in nation and USC is 29th, but however, grad engineering is 5th and 7th respectively.

• faculty to student ratio is much better at USC since I WONT be applying for GT Honors (classes EVERYDAY)

• funding (top 10?) and future for USC is much brighter and I believe USC received 2 HUGE donations for civil engineering.

•rate of graduation fro GT is much lower (plus for me since its harder education) but then also, there are ALOT of koreans in Atlanta (seems like I would be too distracted, even more than at USC)

•environment/experience, I would have more fun in LA than Atlanta (i live in GA, btw)

•i hear USC has a GREAT alumni network connection so opportunity after college would be endless in the west coast, but then again GT's reputation and prestige would get me leads in many places

• USC would waive a semester for all my exams (and I would recieve 32 semester credits)...GT, I would exempt maybe 2 classes at most

• MOST IMPORTANT: my girlfriend will be going to Savannah College of Arts and Designs so GT would be preferable. I've been dating her for a while and we both know our relationship will not just be a gf/bf thing in the future...I would 100% do a long distance relationship but we are both scared that something might happen (we both think we've been living in a bubble and soon it'll pop once we're in college) and it is risky.

What should I do and are there any tips/advice/things im missing that I should consider? THank you so much for reading this post

GT is very rigorous- basically i would only go there if you are ABSOLUTELY sure that you want to do engineering. USC is a more well-rounded school, with a decent b-school, and decent engineering. So, if u are 4 sure 4 engineering, then GT, otherwise USC.

what if I really wanted to do something with trying to improve food production at a micro level. For example, manipulating how plants respire/photosynthesize...wouldn't this be considered agri. engineering? why do you think i should go to GT if I was for sure about eng.? thanks westside.

because GT's engineering is better than USC's. they have chemical and biomolecular...which is sorta what you're looking for.

so if im 100% committed to what i want to do as my profession, i should go to tech and not usc for sure?

if my housing plan is read as: non-university housing for USC, is there ANY way to change that so i can do a university housing (dorm or suite)? Do I have to reject USC just because they cant do this for me/

Call USC housing tomorrow and they will be able to reset, help you with your question. They are very helpful.

then should i not deposit my enroll fee tonight and just wait til tomorrow or are they able to reset the plan for sure (i hope financial packet doesnt get screwed over for this reset)

Did you sign up for housing yet? It costs $30 if you don't enroll to USC later, ie don't register. Once you do you can put your reference of which dorm in the housing. It has nothing to do with your enrollment. You need to enroll by May 1.

I'm just saying there is a enrollment deposit for USC. If I pay it then I'm allowed to pay for housing. With that said, what if USC does not offer me university housing (I would be stuck with non-university if I attend) or USC decides to lower financial aid packet because of housing change?

Dude, you should have applied to UIUC, UW-Madison, or UC Davis if you wanted to do ag science.

I would major in chemical engineering at Georgia Tech and save the money. USC engineering is meh.

stop calling him a dude

Georgia Tech, it is ranked higher and USC is not worth 40K more over 4 yrs. As for the girl, she shouldn't factor in at all.
