A person got into usc for 2024 with gpa 3.5 or less, Act 26 and tons of money. Two cheating scandals in HS. What do you think?
Are you trying to infer that they cheated or bribed their way in?
Of course. They applied for 2023 but did not have the grades or act scores to get in through regular admissions so they are automatically admitted for 2024. Don’t you find that suspicious? Daddy has a ton of money and likely bought them a building. Student involved in 2 cheating scandals in which they came out ahead (gained info by cheating) but the students who gave them the info got in trouble( suspensions). They also donated a building to the private HS. In addition to lower HS grades, also took classes more appropriate for a Community college student. Seems really unfair.
From your other post, it appears you are talking about a student who was rejected for freshman admission, but offered the Trojan Transfer Plan (TTP). TTP is not an automatic admittance nor is it scandalous.
A very interesting person with lower grade/test scores can be accepted to USC or be offered TTP. Maybe they are an amazing musician, or artist, or writer or just plain interesting overall, but stink at math. They can still be just the type USC wants, which is the beauty of the diversity of USC. Even though the USC freshman class profile rivals many elites, it is not a stat driven school, thank goodness.
I also don’t know how anyone can be sure of someone else’s gpa and test scores. Kids talk — they brag their scores up and they will brag their scores down too. They will also embellish the schools they get admitted to, when in fact they did not. I couldn’t pretend to know with 100% certainty the test scores and gpa of even the daughter of my bff. That is personal stuff like how much money one makes. I wouldn’t worry about anyone else getting in anywhere except my own.
I just feel it is best not to surmise and judge others on data that is not verified, and even if it was, it is someone else’s decision to make.
I believe the court documents from the 9th Circuit case (that’s CA) note that one USC admit had a 1020 SAT and then got “some help” so as to get a 1450. While the corruption at USC is worth noting, if the court filings are accurate we should all be amazed that a 1020 SAT is able to academically compete at USC. The intellectual rigor is clearly lacking.
So now every kid who gets into a college some other parent or student thinks they’re unqualified to attend is going to be accused of cheating and fraud? Unless you’ve seen this student’s app you don’t know why they were accepted.
Well, it may not be every student’s fault that people think this, but recent actions of (some now fired) USC officials involved certainly brought this on themselves.
As long as they donated legally, USC is a private institution and can accept whoever they want. This goes on at all schools.
