Has anyone gone through the New student Orientation course in Blackboard? Did you learn anything new?
The course title says its for Fall 2019, but I’m guessing it’s the same thing for Spring 2020.

My D signed up for Fall in London. Last Friday she got a call and also an email from USC, they moved her to Fall admission. She was happy about bombed up to Fall, but also not sure if it’s bad idea to give away the opportunity to go to London. She has until Wednesday the 8th to accept the offer to start in Fall or stay as Spring admit ( go to London).
@“2605 Mandy Way” Omg the stress continues! What a pickle but a good pickle! Congrats on the options. Idk, I get being emotionally committed to London, but will throw out a couple things I would be thinking about if in your shoes…if she starts in the fall at USC, she will have a bigger group of people (tons) to potentially meet, London will be a smaller social group. Fall at USC may set her up better socially for all four years, idk, guess it depends on who/how many are doing London. If she is not engineering, she could study abroad as a soph or junior and have her pick of places to go…and maybe even have a friend to do that with.
Also, what about housing in the bump to fall? Is she at the back of the line for that now that app closed? Something you may want to ask them. Not sure it matter anyway, all housing is good there, really there isn’t one that is terrible, they all have their own features…my guess is she would be in freshman quad still which is fantastic. Everything else - orientation etc, is wide open so she isn’t losing ground there.
You are exactly right, the stress continues! USC did send her link to apply the housing, not sure what option is left for housing. She was emotionally so ready for London, she also received $4000 scholarship from the School in London(because of her 4.00+ GPA). This makes total cost a little over $20,000 for Fall in London. I already paid deposit of $600. Your points are well taken, I totally agree with you she should start at USC in the Fall. However, I like for her to make the final decision. So we will see. Hopefully by Wednesday she is ready. By the way, she is going to major in East Asian area studies with minor in International relations. Thanks for your good advices
The girl has guts (mom too), not every freshman is ready to start abroad. My youngest went to Netherlands after high school (had just turned 18) by herself to study in Utrecht the summer before college started - so I get that some are ready to roll at that point, while others aren’t. That one of mine would be sticking with London, she a little wanderlust one. Wow, the cost is pretty sweet, and I do know the people that go abroad really bond while there so she could make and even better group of friends there. Do you have an idea of how many go to London from USC? Have you been in touch with students there now? I’m guessing you already decided it is good since she decided to do that. ugh, I can see it both ways. I don’t like coming late to the party, so I would likely want fall like you, but if she really wants London, it does save a lot of money and is a once in a lifetime opportunity (or not if she goes abroad later). Then again, East Asian studies bodes well to study, well, in Asia of course as she gets more into the major. Ahhh and ya thought it was all done and May 1st would come and go, then this! Wish you well, she is a lucky girl either way - there really isn’t a wrong choice, just a preferred choice. That’s a good position to be in. Best to you during another crunch time.
I also got bumped into the fall yesterday and accepted my offer already
Did anyone from Marshall get an email about orientation and registration? I heard from other students that they got emails already, but I didnt get one…
In fact she has not completely made up her mind. I am not too worried about her study abroad this young because she already went to China last summer to study Chinese in the University. I let her read your comments, she said she had thought about what you said, she also have her upper classmates from the same high school (currently students at USC) encouraging her to join USC at Fall. My guess is most likely she will join USC in the Fall. Like you said either one is a good choice. She is in the facebook of London USC spring admit group. I offered to take her to London (as a graduation gift) this summer if she chose UCS in the Fall, so she at least has chance to see London.
What was everyone’s transcript like who got in for spring 2020?
I’m not sure if you’re asking for stats or transcript format. If GPA, you’ll find many Spring Admits with very high stats, and even more applicants (with high stats) denied admission altogether. My son (4.0uw) considered himself very fortunate to be a Spring Admit. Sorry if this doesn’t answer your question.
If anyone was able to attend today’s “Community College Information Session” for Spring 2020 admits, I’d really appreciate a brief recap.
We’re OOS and our son is planning for CC in the Fall. His counselor gave general advice, but couldn’t tell him definitively if the credits would count towards GE requirements (local CC not on the articulation list).
Anyone know if there’s a Trojan Family Weekend for Spring?
Is it hard for spring admits to find off-campus housing?
Hey fellow spring admits, one of my friend who was a spring admit just got a call yesterday offering him fall admission. Probably a rare case and no one else will be moved up, but one can hope!
I’m a spring admit and the only way I’m able to afford to go is because I got a mountain of financial aid - this spring is going to cost me $10,000. Does anyone know if this means that every semester will cost me $10,000, or if every academic year will cost $10,000?
You should be able to access your myUSC and see the financial aid breakdown in that section. Whout seeing that, my guess would be that is each semester. USC for 10k a semester is incredible.
Based on previous spring posts, seems like housing assignments should be out soon.
For giggles, I searched through older posts to see if any spring admits were assigned dorms they requested. I didn’t find anyone.
I’d assume it’s even less likely for a Spring admit to get into RC housing (if it’s even possible).
Do most spring admits get Trojan Or Marks Hall?
Congrats to the spring admits! Just in case your housing falls through we are offering the following (my daughter’s apartment).
***** FREE TWO MONTHS RENT*****
HOUSING AVAILABLE FOR SPRING SEMESTER!!! My daughter is looking to relet her bed space at the Lorenzo. We are offering FREE TWO MONTHS rent paid by us for my daughter’s bed space. It is a two bed/two bath. Rent per bed space is $1140 which includes all utilities. Please message if interested.
** Note the full apartment is available for relet as all four girls are going abroad in the Spring. The two months free rent is only for my daughter’s spot. You would need to negotiate with the other girls separately for any concessions/incentives on the other bed spots available.
Each room sleeps two, but there is the option to upgrade to a single bedroom. The building is located in a prime location between DTLA and USC’s campus. Shuttles to and from campus are provided seven days of the week. The building has amazing amenities such as parking spots for cars, four pools, a restaurant on the ground floor, a gym with state of the art equipment, and more! Each unit comes with its own washer and dryer, and balcony.
Son was assigned Parkside Apts with his preferred roommate! He’s super excited.
He was hoping to be closer to SCA, but he’s not complaining. He met up with his roommate (SCA Production, spring admit) over the Summer, and they get along very well.
They followed the advice given here about matching your profiles are much as possible, and it worked for them. Good luck everyone. Fight On!
I got assigned into Mccarthy honors which was my first choice, but it might be different because I’m on scholarship
