USC Status Update

Please be patient just a bit longer. According to another post the first postmark noted last year for an admissions letter of acceptance was January 23rd. I have no idea if that would be the same this year as the last date for submitting an application was a day later for those who did not apply for a merit scholarship.

Students who are applying to the schools of music and theatre are still involved in the audition process.

Remember the admissions committee is considering over 35,500+ applications.

Last name starts with H, not too high up, but not too low, so I definitely wouldn’t expect to be one of the first to see the change if it was alphabetical. My stats were above average, but not elite (33 ACT and 3.91 GPA), so I wouldn’t be surprised if I weren’t considered for a scholarship, but I’m still hoping!

SAT 2200 (took once, as a Junior)
Math2 790, BioM 790, Physics 790, Chem 780
GPA 4.0

I predict letters by Saturday for CA.

:-)

It won’t be a letter…it will be a big fat envelope, much more exciting.

^^Hopefully!

Well my “package” will be arriving much earlier than april according to the financial aid office when my mom called. The guy said package then realized it and said “answer.”

I have this one:
Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2010)
Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.

Applied back in November.

I have a completely different status:

I’m not sure if it has changed at all because I can’t remember what it originally said, but it makes me very nervous that no one else here has that message

My stats are pretty good, u think… 2400 SAT and 4.0 unweighted GPA as an IB diploma candidate. I have not submitted my midyear report yet.

Sorry, I meant *I think!

ok you’ve made me nervous now…your SAT is miles better than my 31 ACT :(

D with updated status has 35ACT but only 3.87 GPA - somewhere in the top 25% from a non-ranking school - so not the most likely candidate for a scholarship - unless they loved her essay or something? She is a National Hispanic Scholar though - so maybe they give scholarships for those? We submitted the Fafsa and CSS to schools with estimates on the first of January. These status updates are so cryptic!!

I have a 30 ACT, so I’m getting nervous as well! I really hope I get some sort of status update, even if it just says “We’re still looking at your application” just so I know I’m still in the game…

I still have the ‘default’ “we are currently reviewing your application” status.

“Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.”

Let me get this straight… Is the status update listed above the default one? Or is there a status prior to this one that reads “we are currently reviewing your application”?

Cowman809, don’t read too much into that conversation - while certainly you may have been accepted, USC has NO history of hinting at acceptances in calls to Financial Aid. Financial Aid consistantly encourages all applicants to apply for all financial aid/scholarships for which they may qualify, and at this point has very little, if any, information in terms of who has/has not been accepted. They do not give acceptance information. The Fin Aid rep may have been stressing that the Norman Topping Student Aid applications have many components - including recommendations - and are due very soon - Feb 12th.

As I said, you certainly may have been accepted, but I worry that you are making some assumptions that may result in disappointment. Wait for an acceptance before celebrating.

Best of luck!

“Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.”

^That’s the one I meant, sorry. I didn’t get the exact wording. It’s been like that for months for several of us that submitted our applications before the Dec. 1st deadline.

Adambedford’s “We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application.” was my status from November 15th until December 3rd? Then it changed to the “Your application is being reviewed…” and it’s been stuck like that ever since.

As someone who followed this a bit too much last year, I’ll try and offer some input:

Last year, as far as I could tell, this status coming through around now meant you were accepted:

“Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.”

A huge percentage of the students who received that update also received scholarships. When I say huge, I mean huge, like over 90%. If they received a scholarship, an Oasis link appeared on their page within the next few weeks, and an acceptance letter came shortly afterward.

This year, it sounds like people have had that status for a while, so I’m not sure if you’re going to see another update that’s indicative of an acceptance. My guess is that you will, and it will happen soon. If I remember right, 2 years ago there was a different status that indicated early acceptance. They seem to purposely make things inconsistent so it’s hard to figure out what’s going on.

If you do receive the next status update (whatever it is) and see that everyone got in with a scholarship besides you, then you probably got accepted without a scholarship but have to wait to hear. I’m 99% sure this is what happened to me, as my application was very strong but my SAT score (2040) was low for a scholarship. If I remember right, there was one other person on this forum in the same situation as me. I ultimately ended up at MIT because it was impossible to justify going to USC over MIT without a scholarship.

Any updates that occur after this first wave make a lot more sense. By that I mean you cannot read into them any more than what they say, you just have to wait for the one that says its in the mail.

Good luck. Don’t stress over it too much.

bmwguy

I am the one who likes predicting my admission result.
But i think it is a distorted mood. we have no way to improve our chance after submitting our application.

no one is more nervous than am I. Just 2040
and mine says

Yeah, like a lot of others mine has been “Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.” since early-mid December…

However, for a few days before that it was something else. I can’t quite remember, it was something to the effect of “we have everything you sent us” so I think THAT’S the default.

OK - so now my daughter’s went back from the “forwarded” one to the earlier “Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.”
So the committee must have laughed and thrown her back!
