USC Thornton School of Music Admission Date?

Just last weekend I had my audition at the Thornton school of music and I loved it! I was a popular voice applicant and I was wondering if any past students or parents remember when they got their admission decision or at least around when? Thank you!

My daughter also auditioned for same program that weekend. Also hoping to hear from others as to if/ when they recvd info:)

My son auditioned for BA brass & woodwinds on Sunday 1/22. The following Wednesday he received an email from Thornton admisisons saying he is being “considered” for admission, USC merit scholarship, and Thornton merit scholarship.

So singlikeagirl, did you receive anything like that? A few others on the USC 2021 admissions thread also got the same email and no one knows what they mean… like we are not getting invites to the preview weekends for Presidential etc. scholarships. Nothing has come in the mail yet. No change on the USC applied student portal… says admission decisions will be posted in March.

Indigo 790 maybe you will hear next week.

I think that there are more voice auditions the weekend of Feb 11/12 so maybe you won’t hear anything back until USC Thornton finishes all of those auditions. I think it might be the last audition weekend for the entire school of music.

Weekend of 1/21 - 1/22 was for students who wanted scholarship consideration but I think Feb 11/12 is an overflow date for vocal and piano.

Unsure what the email means. Trying not to read too much into it. They did ask him a lot of questions during the audition. He sent thank you emails to the professors at the audition and got “you’re welcome and good luck” responses right away. (some other colleges do not acknowledge any thank you responses so it was nice that the professors actually read the notes.)
Basically it means they did not say NO yet.
There are several more weekends of auditions.

Keep us posted… it is hard to wait!

That is good to know and congrats on the email and responses!! I haven’t gotten an email but I know the popular music program doesn’t offer any scholarships so it’s possible they don’t send emails regarding consideration for that. I’m not sure though.
The wait is so hard!! I wish we could know sooner. Let me know the decision when you get it and I hope your son gets in!

Sing Like A Girl, where else did you apply?
All of the Thornton majors are highly competitive but I think popular voice takes only a few applicants.

USC is the most competitive of the schools where he applied.
He was able to audition live for UCLA Music as well - these were his only schools that required a prescreen.

All of his schools are Southern California universities, not conservatories… so USC knows that he is not holding out for results from Berklee, Juilliard, Indiana, Peabody, etc. etc. etc. At every audition they ask where else he is applying.

USC Admissions (not Thornton admissions) offers several kinds of merit scholarships; the smallest is the Deans at 1/4 tuition. They do not depend on financial need. The others (half and full tuition) require interviews on campus. There are lots of threads about people receiving notice for these awards and invitations to visit campus. Supposedly USC Admissions (not Thornton) will send you a letter if you are NOT eligible for merit aid. (Read some of the threads from past years)
I haven’t heard of anyone auditioning for Thornton who got invites for interviews for the bigger awards. (Or maybe they just do not post here!) Then again, each kid is interviewed during the auditions… but I don’t think it is the same.

Maybe later this week once Thornton has processed all of the auditions from this weekend, you will hear something from them.

Let us know!

My daughter auditioned for popular music voice the weekend of 1/22 also, so i’m following. We haven’t received anything yet!

We are waiting, but Thorton does not do auditions for composition, so absolutely no feedback yet. Hoping it will be soon - all we heard was by April 1.

I didn’t apply to Thornton but the current rumored date for all USC applicants to have their decisions mailed is March 23rd with the portals being updated a few days later. Good luck to everybody in this thread
