USC Transfer Decisions 2010 OFFICIAL THREAD

Accepted - CLAS / Sociology
Rejected - ANNENBERG / Communications

Stats:[ul]
[] College transferring from: Orange Coast College
[] Entering as: Junior (Although it says on my packet that I am entering as a Sophomore. I already have 72 units done so I am guessing they haven’t evaluated my credentials yet.)
[] GPA: 3.78
[] Units completed: 72
[] Units in progress: 0
[] Pre-reqs completed: All
[] GEs completed: All
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: HS Cheer team/squad Co-captain, Prom Committee Head, Grad Ball Committee Head, Student Council Programs Head, Intercultural Club member, OC Food Bank Volunteer, Irvine Ranch Conservancy Volunteer
[] Job/Work Experience: Worked at Tilly’s, Sears, Wet Seal and Barbizon Modelling and Acting School. Fashion PR Intern with Velvet Angels.
[] Essays (subject and responses): Decent. I talked about my friendship with my best friends in my essay.
[] Letters of Recommendation: 1. From my Spanish Professor that graduated from UCLA. Lol!
[/ul][ b]Other:**[ul]
[] Other schools applied to: UCSD, UCSB, UCLA, Cal, USC
[li] Comments: I’m so happy I got in USC! I got rejected from Annenberg but I called them up last week and they had asked me to email them about switching majors from Sociology to Communications. They checked my app again and they said that everything looks good and that my chances of getting admitted to Communications is pretty good. The lady I spoke with on the phone even said she’s not sure why I was rejected so I’m guessing it’s a number game? Impacted major perhaps? I’ll know within a week or 2 if I can switch to Comm. I’m pretty confident that I can  BUT…USC gave me no aid :frowning: Sooo, I still have to discuss this with my parents. I really want to go to USC but I UCSD sounds appealing to me too. So, we’ll see. Fight on![/li][/ul]

Accepted - CLAS/Political Science

Rejected - ANNENBERG/Communications

Stats:[ul]
[] College transferring from: Berkeley City College
[] Entering as: Sophomore
[] GPA: 3.4
[] Units completed:48
[] Units in progress:
[] Pre-reqs completed: All
[] GEs completed: All
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app:Internship at a non-profit magazine. Didn’t list High School ECs because I didn’t think it was relevant.
[] Job/Work Experience:Retail job throughout my 2 years at BCC
[] Essays (subject and responses):Honestly, I think this was a major factor in being offered admissions. My GPA wasn’t as competitive as others but I feel like my personal statement/essay expressed who I am as a student and person. I narrated my essay through an abstract perspective which in my opinion helped to differentiate my essay.
[] Letters of Recommendation: English teacher. Didn’t get to read it but I’m sure it was awesome.
[/ul]Other:[ul]
[] Other schools applied to: Only USC.
[li] Comments:If your GPA isn’t competitive like mine, really take the time to make the rest of your application honestly show who you are. Don’t just mention things that are considered “safe” or what you think USC would like to hear. I said that the greatest invention of all time is between the Magic Bullet and cat nip. Show some personality![/li][/ul]

[li] Comments: For future students or applicants, I really suggest taking time with the USC application. I personally feel my time with the mastery of my essay, personal responses, and overall…just selling myself, got me in. My GPA is strong for national standards, but for USC it’s mediocre. Utilize your admissions counselors, heat up the phone lines at the admissions office. Make your name known to anyone and everyone you can. Get the message across, that USC is meant for you, and USC could use you. [/li][ /list]
