USC Transfer Decisions 2010 OFFICIAL THREAD

**Accepted - Marshall School of Business **

Stats:[ul]
[] College transferring from: Saddleback College ('08-'10), UC Berkeley (Fall '07)
[] Entering as: Sophomore… just like everyone else
[] GPA: At Saddleback: 4.0, but at UCB: 11 units of not-very-good which was explained as medical consequences
[] Units completed: 73
[] Units in progress: 19
[] Pre-reqs completed: All
[li] GEs completed: All possible
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: Nothing above average for this caliber of school during college years (due to illness), but a lot of great stuff from HS.
[] Job/Work Experience: A decent number of continuous good sounding jobs since sophomore year of high school, but nothing ridiculously special or specific to business or accounting.
[] Essays (subject and responses): I wrote well composed essays/short answers, and completed the quick takes with respectful levity. The essay was specific to my major as I talked about a research paper/conference in my field, and I incorporated how it helped to shape my career goals. For the activity, I wrote about my job teaching chess. Everything was well written, but I didn’t spend any time throwing in literary devices that didn’t come naturally to me when trying to convey my message when I first typed it.
[] Letters of Recommendation: Three as follows: 1) Honors Director/Honors Economics/Honors Humanities Professor, 2) Honors Political Science/Honors Humanities Professor, 3) Honors Business Professor. The all pretty much wrote that I was the smartest person they’d ever met =p

[/ul]Other:[ul]
[] Legacy: Brother (BS Accounting), Mother (MBA)
[] Other schools applied/accepted to: Claremont McKenna College, Cal, UCLA, UCSB
[li] Comments: I chose to go to CMC as soon as I saw the acceptance packet because, well, its awesome.[/li][/ul]

[] Job/Work Experience: 2 part time jobs in the past. Currently shift leader at my third part-time job working 27+ hours/wk.
[] Essays (subject and responses): Discussed difficulties with family and talked about holding down a job. In all honesty, my essay as well as my short answers were pretty weak.
[] Letters of Recommendation: None
[/ul]Other:[ul]
[] Other schools applied to: UCR (Accepted), UCB (Rejected)
[li] Comments: I’m just relieved that I did not get straight-out rejected :expressionless: BUT it’s going to be a long month of waiting after submitting my spring grades.[/li][/ul]

[] ECs listed on app: President’s Honors List for four semesters; Phi Theta Kappa member; volunteered in high school; worked full time my whole college career. I can’t quite remember what else I wrote.
[] Job/Work Experience: 4 years full time at DHL:GF (currently); 3 years at Fry’s electronics; 1 1/2 years at Walmart (first job)
[] Essays (subject and responses): Compared my previous college experiences with my current one. There is more detail in comments. It was a very difficult compare and contrast essay that was hard to put into words. I probably could have used more feedback.
[] Letters of Recommendation: One from my Honors Philosophy professor and one from my Honors Political Science professor.
[/ul]Other:[ul]
[] Other schools applied to: None. Never finished applications for Vanderbilt, Columbia School of General Studies, or the University of Arizona. I didn’t have much desire to head east for undergrad studies and I found out I got into USC before the UA deadline.
[li] Comments: I am a nontraditional student who graduated high school back in 2000. I attended a local community college during my freshman and sophomore years of high school with disastrous results (2 F’s in 6 classes taken). Attended Arizona State in 2001, but dropped out due to another lackluster performance. I stayed in the work force for six years until I had the opportunity to go back to school. In 2007, my hours changed at my current job which allowed me to attend PC during the day. My job reimbursed my full cost of tuition and books (only my TI-84 was not covered). I never thought I would get into USC because of my prior academic record. It just goes to show that hard work and dedication really does pay off in the end.[/li][/ul]

Rejected - Annenberg / Communication

Stats:
College transferring from: Santa Rosa JC

Letters of Recommendation: 1 (political science teacher)
Other schools applied to: UCLA (Rejected), UT Austin (Rejected), UC Berkeley (Accepted), North Carolina (Accepted)

Comments: I’m really surprised that I was rejected mainly because of my gpa and the fact that I completed many classes specifically for USC and had a strong upward grade trend. However, I was already planning on attending UC Berkeley anyways because $40k/year is just whack. Go Bears.

Accepted - CLAS/Undeclared (Pre-Acct. Emphasis)
Rejected - Marshall: Business Administration

Stats:[ul]

[] Units in progress: 12
[] Pre-reqs completed: Business Calc, English, Micro/Macro Econ
[li] GEs completed: I, III (Diversity in progress)[/li][/ul]Comments:

I had all A’s in my Pre-Reqs for Marshall, however I ended up in CLAS as an undeclared major instead. As a SCion, I’m just extremely excited to get in on my 2nd attempt of applying to USC! I will worry about applying to Marshall and eventually Levanthall in the future.

Another note on the application status process. My application was one of the earlier ones to be under “reviewing” (3/30/10), yet I didn’t get the “fowarded” status until (5/28/10). It was almost two months until I heard anything, but I finally got my acceptance letter today. So don’t be discouraged if your application has been stuck for awhile. Fight On!

[] Other schools applied to: USC or Bust!!!
[] Comments: I will be 3rd generation to go(grandpa, mom, 2 aunts)!!! I went to the Trojan Transfer plan after I was denied last year in high school, so all of my hardwork paid off! This is honestly surreal!! This confirms all of my hardwork, I passed up other good colleges in high school and decided to go to a Community college because I wanted to be a TROJAN! I would say being accepted to USC was my dream since I was a little kid, but it was a goal for past 2 1/2 years! This really shows that you can do anything you put your mind to. I was a pretty good student in high school, but I did not apply myself completely. I set a goal to be accepted to USC, figured out what I needed to do, and worked my ass off with my eyes on the prize!!! I convinced myself I was capable of accomplishing my dream and I did. I can not believe I am actually going to be a Trojan! FIGHT ON!!!

For those of you wondering about my statuses and what not… I got “we are reviewing” since about Feb ----> “unable to process” (5/14/10)—> “Your app has been forwarded to the committee” (6/01/10)—> “The committee has acted upon your app” (6/03/10)---->Received the package 6/04/10!!!

Best of luck to all of your future applicants!!! PM me if you have any questions, dont be shy I love to pass on the knowledge I got through this process since the past CCers did that for me!
