Hello, I am applying to transfer to USC Marshall Pre-Accounting for Fall 2016. I have the diversity requirement, lower division writing requirement, and two categories of the general education completed. I want to know if USC weighs how many GE courses you take in their transfer decisions? I am considering taking a course to fulfill another GE requirement in the spring but it would leave me with 5 classes and 16 units and I’m debating on whether or not do do it. If I don’t take it then I’ll have 4 classes and 13 units. If I take this course it would leave me missing one GE prior to transfer instead of two. I have two Ws (which I know don’t look good) and don’t have many ECs (I have a job and was the secretary of a volunteering club high school). I am intending on having a 3.73 cumulative GPA at the end of the fall semester when I apply. What should I do? Given my stats would it be beneficial for me to take the extra class?
Bump
It’s not necessary, but it can help show “interest” in USC (as my counselor told me) if you complete more GEs. I had around the same amount of GEs completed you did when I applied (I still got in!), so I think it can benefit you (boost GPA & save money on a class), but it won’t hurt you in any way. If you feel like you can handle an extra 3 units, I would go ahead and do it. I would be sure to emphasize the skills you have that would make you successful at USC, despite not being involved on campus (due to work). Good luck and fight on!
Thanks for the info! What was your GPA and major? Did you have any Ws?
A mini backstory, I originally applied for Marshall as my first choice and Econ as my second choice, but then I realized that I didn’t want to pursue either of those anymore. I emailed my admissions counselor about my interest in Sociology instead (in June) and she allowed the change (yay!!!). I didn’t have any W’s.
These were my stats:
Stats:
[ *] Entering as: Junior
[ *] Major: Sociology
[ *] GPA: 3.46 at the time of application, 3.68 after spring grades (received a SGR in May)
[ *] ECs listed on app: Honors Student (completed program as well), have held three different officer positions for my honors club, tons of volunteer hours from various organizations (Reading to Kids, LAWorks, my club, etc.), administrative assistant for a furniture company, mentor for autistic college students on campus, ran an online business, babysitting
[ *] Job/Work Experience: none
[ *] Letters of Recommendation: 1 from the Director of the Honors Program
Alright thanks for your help!
Also, anyone accepted to USC Marshall or USC in general have any Ws? I have two and wondering if I killed my chances by having them.
